We just returned from our second stay at Samonas. We find it the most relaxing place we've been to in our lives. Konstantinos, the host, goes out of his way to make the stay something special. Nesteled in the hills outside of Chania, the windy road up has spectacular views. Once there, the only sounds you hear are the roosters... more

Despite our flight being delayed and arriving at the apartments gone midnight, the owner was there to welcome us and settle us in. This level of service was evident throughout the 2 weeks we were there and combined with the idyllic location, wonderful views and excellent accommodation to make our stay a real joy. It also proved to be a... more

Samonas is a little village were you find the real Cretan life, away from the busy tourist-centers, but only 25 km from Chania. An ideal place to come home to in the evening after a day visiting the beautifull island of Crete. The houses are very well equiped and the owner will do everything he can to make your stay... more

We stayed at the Samonas Villas in July 2008, as one of three families, all with children under 10 years old. The villas are lovely and well appointed. They are well cared for and there is a small shop attached (which is useful as the nearest shops are approx 15 minutes drive away). The Villa's are quite isolated from other... more

What a magic find, stumbled upon whilst searching the net. The hospitality was perfect- so thoughtful without ever being over bearing. The individually designed rooms/houses made you feel like you were all alone in a traditional Cretan village on a hill, but with all the convenience of being connected to a hotel- pool, bar etc. Highly recommend this one! more

Wow what a place, peaceful, relaxing , just perfect. The place was thoughtfully kitted out with a full modern kitchen, 2 x balconies, spotlessly clean. The owner Constantinos was great and nothing was too much trouble. The Pool was nice, everything was great oh and lastly the Kittens all 6 of them, great fun. Many Thanks Tony & Joanne. more

We stayed here on our honeymoon for 4 nights and had a great, relaxing time. Advantages: * The place is newly built, so despite being set far away from the city, high in the hills, it feels very modern & luxurious * It was a great change of pace to live in "isolation" in a tiny village - it was... more

"You can't go home again"? Hardly, mister Wolfe. The first time, in 2006, we felt "at home" in Samonas Traditional Villas and the second one, this July, it felt exactly the same. Or maybe, to pay a tribute to the great writer's wisdom, not exactly the same. The complex remains as good as they get (extremely tasty, spacious, clean, comfortable,... more

My family of four, two teenagers, spent four lovely nights at Samonas. While I have read reviews that don't recommend Samonas for teenagers, I found it to be the perfect un-plugged retreat away from our life in Chicago. It was good for them to live wi-fi free... once they figured out they could breath the air without it. They could... more

My wife and I had originally planned to stay for 3 days...but after our first night at Samonas we couldn't bring ourselves to leave and extended our stay for an additional 2 nights. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing, or romantic getaway in Crete this is your place. The location was beautiful, the villas were immaculate, and Konstantinos... more
