We spent a wonderful 10 days exploring Crete from this villa. The owner couldn't have been more helpful, with accurate directions and advice; and one can order fabulous meals in advance, home-cooked by his mother using organic produce from their own farm (including wild boar!) Breakfast on the long verandah overlooking Mount Ghiourtas and the great agricultural valley below (mainly vines and olives) made a cheering start to each day. There is a very good small supermarket on the main road, about a mile away. One small point: the road to the villa is not for the faint-hearted - it is very steep indeed, and you have to drive up all the way in first! However, we always managed - not least because nobody was ever coming in the opposite direction (phew). more

We could self-cater or have good homecooked greek food prepared by Stella. Her mousaka was delicious. We hired a car (which we were nervous about) but thanks to Alexandros's very clear directions we were able to see Knossos (only 30 mins away) and the museum and Venetian Fort in Heraklion without entering the city centre. The day trip to Phaestos was enjoyable and easy driving. We were sorry we couldn't spend longer there. We even got to met their farm animals...
