Being greek/american, I have traveled to Greece every year for the past 40 years, and have been to more than 25 islands and a number of hotels. The best to date- the Hotel Vourlis on Syros. Everything was perfect. The hotel is a late 19th century mansion beautifully furnished. The concierge who runs the hotel -- Mr. Prindezzi -- is wonderful -- his recommendations for restaurants and evening activities were excellent, plus he provides amazing service. Every day, the room was given amazing variety of fresh fruit and plates of the local sweets, loukoumi. For breakfast, Mr. Prindezzi lays out a wonderful family style breakfast on an antique dining table by a window with a beautiful view of the sea -- the breakfast is all local jams, cheeses, and the most delicious Syros thyme honey. It was very difficult to leave the hotel as we felt so at home. It was a truly memorable experience, and we are definitely going to go back next year (and every year from now on).
