Basecamp is a beautiful place to stay, so peaceful and remote, with fantastic staff, lovely food and comfy rooms. The frozen lake is so picturesque, we also walked to the frozen waterfall and to the mill too, which weren't far away through the forest. The guides that led our Exodus Family Wilderness Week were great, and really took care of us when the temperature hit -34C so we could still go outside and take part in activities. The food was good, the cakes were tasty, and the soups- the orange hot chocolate was very boozy indeed. Both children (9 and 11) loved it, and embraced the activities, as well as playing games in the evening near the fire in the main building. I really hope to return one day, as the activities were great fun, the location stunning, and all the family had an amazing time.

This was a beautiful setting to stay for a week. The cabin was really cosy and the heated flooring was nice. It was an incredible place and you can ask them to knock and wake you if they see the northern lights, which is a really nice touch. The food was incredible and the staff really friendly. It was a really great base to enjoy the National park.

We ate their set lunch of soup, bread and dessert after hiking the little bears trail. Great to find such a place in the wilderness. Cannot judge it as a hotel, but it’s very rustic and the staff are friendly. If you go hiking around here it’s a good lunch stop

Amazing stay at Basecamp Oulanka as part of Exodus Finnish Wilderness week. The camp is only about 30 minutes drive from Kuusamo but once you are there, it feels like the middle of nowhere. Accommodations are rustic but clean and comfortable - very unlikely you spend much time in your room for it to become an annoyance! The camp caters for all kinds and levels of activities from ice climbing to snow shoeing and they provide all the footwear and gear you could possibly need. Top tip - bring your best base layers but use all of their gear for everything else. It might look a little ‘used’ but it’s thoroughly cleaned and you probably won’t want to damage all your expensive cold weather gear anyways! WiFi available if the main cabin with a well stocked bar that serves an amazing, boozy hot chocolate to enjoy in front of the fire. **bring some slippers to wear around the main lodge - gives your feet a rest and the boots a chance to dry out! **

We came here as part of an Exodus trip called Winter Wilderness Experience. Great week and we tried several new experiences such as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, quinzee building and much more. Aldo a base to visit other experiences such as dog sledging and reindeer farm. Food is amazing as are all the staff

Really nice facility with many top notch services and friendly staff. There are numerous cross country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking and ice climbing options in the surrounding area. I really enjoyed hiking by the river for photography options. It would be a good idea to wear crampons on the trails though especially around the stairs and close to the river to prevent slipping.

Wow what a find, booked via Exodus travels. Everything about this trip and Basecamp are excellent. The rooms are cosy, with heated floors, just right to dry your clothes on. All thermal layers are provided and equipment for x-county skiing and snowshoe walking. The guides are excellent, knowledgable and friendly. When it comes to the meals provided, what can I say but amazing, excellent, scrumptious and plenty for second and even third helpings if you have the room. Other experiences whilst at Basecamp, are husky sledding, a visit to a Reindeer farm with ride on a sleigh. Buiding a Quinzee, a snow house. Sadly no Northern lights visible on our weeks stay. I would defiantly go back again and possibly in the summer months to view Black Bears.

We stayed at Basecamp Oulanka on a 1 week Exodus Wilderness holiday. It was incredible. Loved waking up every morning and opening the curtains to snow. Room is nicer than the photos online look - basic yes (hairdryers are borrowed from reception) but very clean and underfloor heating made them cosy despite the minus temp outside. Food all week was excellent - different lunch and dinner choice every day, and always coffee/tea/juices available through the day. The staff are all excellent - thank you for all working so hard and being so friendly. All activities from and around the camp were excellent - lovely cross country ski route to self-explore and great guides. Just magical and so glad we got to spend a week there.

Stayed here on an Exodus winter wilderness trip, which was fantastic. It is about an hours drive from Kuusamo airport. The rooms are small but adequate, they are warm and comfortable and the under floor heating works well and is great for drying wet clothes. We stayed in the upper level rooms which were a little bigger than the lower level rooms and had a balcony and mezzanine level. The mezzanine level was small but was useful for storing luggage. The rooms don't have a hairdryer but you can borrow one from reception and return it after use, I took my own. The rooms don't have a kettle, we took our own travel kettle as I like my cuppa 1st thing, however there is always tea, coffee, juice and hot water available in the main lodge/reception area. Meals are taken in the communal area of the main building where there is also a bar and snack shop and a huge log burner, there are also board games to use. If you like gin the local gin is excellent. Food was all homemade , fresh and generous amounts, they also catered for allergies and food intolerances very well. The location is for me it's greatest appeal, it is away from anywhere and so peaceful , beautiful and unspoilt. The frozen lake is also an ideal place to watch the Northern lights. The forest and frozen lake was ideal for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. There is opportunity to try so many things - quinzee building ( and sleeping in them if you wish), husky dog sledding, visiting the reindeer farm, snow shoeing, cross country skiing and also down hill skiing, snow mobile driving and river floating if you go into the resort of Ruka which is about 20 minutes away. The lodge also provide all the equipment and warm clothing you need for the activities, all of which were good quality. There is also a sauna and outdoor hot tub. All the staff were amazing too, so helpful, cheerful and nothing was too much trouble. Our guide Elina was a genuinely lovely person who was very knowledgeable, approachable and friendly. We were genuinely sorry to leave, one of the best holidays ever. would love to return one day and would recommend this place.
