I enjoyed my stay at this hotel as a base for exploring Northern Iceland. It’s quite quirky but in a way that I found very endearing. The room was more than adequate for a four night stay with a short walk into the town to enjoy the local restaurants and bars. The staff were great, as was the hotel bar especially during happy hour. Bravo.

The positive points, our checking experience was very good, efficient and we were lucky enough to get our room 2 hours before the official checkin times. The bed was very comfortable The room and bathroom were clean The negative points the insulation in the room is non existent. Maybe we were unlucky but we could hear not only our neighbours, everyone one who was in the corridors and also the group of people who were having drinks on the terrace just below our window. The staff at the restaurant in the morning were very unhelpful. Agreed what I asked for was not on offer (I asked for 2 fried eggs), but having just stayed 2 nights at the sister hotel in Myvatn where fried eggs were not on offer either and where my request was greeted by, I will do them myself for you, the flat no we can’t do this for you because if we did we would have to do it for everyone, was more than disappointing. And please if you (the hotel management) tell me you don’t have the manpower, I strongly recommend you have a close look at the outstanding customer service Myvatn delivers with only 2 staff at the breakfast service. Our table at breakfast had not been cleaned properly. The decor of our room was spartan (again we could have been unlucky, we got a disabled room although we are both ablebodied). Given that we had a disabled room I was supervised by how small it was. I had a bad skiing accident last year and was in a wheelchair for a short period of time. During that time I did book disabled rooms and they were palatial in comparison. I can only imagine how small the other rooms are in this hotel…. Most of the channels did not work on the tv.

Quite nice hotel in Akureyri. Rooms are spacious and very clean. There is coffee machine and capsules in the room. Just a cross the street it a public pool for a goos swim before going to bed. Breakfast was very good and with a nice variety of sweat and sour options.

I really don’t know where to start! We went to our room after checking in and unpacked. We then headed down into Akureyri to check our cafes and restaurants. On our return to our room, we showered and as we were getting ready to head for a drink and dinner, we realised that the extractor fans in both the toilet and shower were going. They were loud and there was no way to turn them off. The shower area has no door and is effectively open to the room - so trying to sleep with that noise going on would have been a nightmare. The fan in the toilet also had black markings on it # not sure if just dirt or mould! So we spoke with reception who agreed to move us to another room. Great - although that obviously meant packing and unpacking again! As others have mentioned in reviews, the rooms are quite odd. Entrance to the shower is to the right of the bed and the toilet immediately to the left. There are no bedside tables to put a phone, book etc. Again, as others have said, you can’t sit up in bed and lean back against your pillows … to enjoy a morning coffee in bed maybe … as there is a wooden shelf directly above the bed which you bang your knock or head against if leaning back. There are no comfortable chairs / seating for relaxing … which makes me think the hotel is aimed more at business people rather than tourists wanting to relax. Add to that, our room wasn’t cleaned once during our stay of 4 nights. We highlighted this after 2 days of missed cleaning and was assured that housekeeping would be advised to ensure they’d clean the next day. We came back from a day out to discover nothing of the sort had been done and our wet towels (yet to be changed since our arrival) were still strewn on the floor. The waste bin hadn’t been emptied and fluff and dirt was flying around on the floor! We reported it - again - and were asked if we’d put a sign on the door to say don’t clean. Housekeeping apparently do a sweep of all floors at 2am to see which rooms they don’t have to clean. We had NOT put this sign out … coupled with the fact we’d already reported the issue and had been assured we’d be cleaned the next day. It’s utterly bizarre!! By way of ‘compensation’, we were offered a complimentary breakfast on our final morning. Great … other than the breakfast really isn’t all that! The cooked food consists of scrambled ‘eggs’ (no way was it proper scrambled eggs - assume they make it with dried egg), baked beans and overcooked bits of bacon. That’s it! I didn’t put much on my plate as it didn’t look very appetising … and I couldn’t eat it! E tried the pastries - which were dry. Maybe leftover from the day before? We were the only people eating breakfast on a Saturday morning - I wonder why?! The hotel has a ‘Happy Hour’ between 4pm and 6pm. We went down for a drink each day. On a couple of occasions there seemed to be a lot of local people in the hotel - just for a drink or ‘cream teas’. On two occasions we placed our order at the bar # a glass of wine and a cocktail - only for groups of people to go up and order beers … and be served their beers and other drinks while we just sat waiting … and waiting! I think it’s very unlikely that we will visit again. But I will mention a couple of positives. The reception staff were generally helpful with any questions we had. One in particular - Natalia - was excellent and really tried to help us when we had the various room issues. In addition, the meal we had in the Aurora Restaurant was very good.

We had two rooms on the fourth floor, one set up as a king and one as twin. Both rooms were spacious and comfortable with lovely view of the Hlidarfjall ski area. The bathrooms were well appointed with quality L’occitane products and there was a good coffee maker as well. The rooms lacked a fridge and a safe which might be expected in a hotel of this standard. We found the location of the hotel to be very convenient with a large (free) car park and only 10 minutes walk to the town centre. There is quite a steep hill to walk up and down which was a good work out for us but would be difficult for those with mobility problems. Sensible, non slip footwear required for snowy/icy conditions. The hotel doesn’t have a pool / hot tub but is directly opposite Akureyri’s excellent thermal pool complex. This offers great value compared to the other thermal bathing options in the area. Breakfast was of good quality with a reasonable selection on offer. We had one evening meal in the Aurora restaurant which was excellent. All in all the hotel was a comfortable and convenient base for our 4 day break in this stunning part of Iceland.

This was a package holiday arranged through Icelandair. Located up the hill behind the cathedral. Easy check in, lovely comfortable room over looking the open air swimming pool. Breakfast was good, nice selection. Didn't try the restaurant for dinner. Staff were excellent, my flights home had been cancelled and they went above the call of duty to help me.

Our first room we checked into was very small so we requested to move and were eventually given a larger room. It was a corner room overlooking a cross road of two major roads and quite noisy from the traffic . Location is quite good being only a short walk to the centre of town. Only trouble is that it is on the top of a hill so alright going down and you know the rest. The room was comfortable but had no safe or refrigerator. Breakfast was good and Happy hour was enjoyable. Staff were very friendly and happy to assist with any requests. Free parking was available on site. We would recomend this hotel

Good hotel, very close to city center. Reasonable breakfast, but food area is quite crowed. Not the most comfortable bed. Reasonably fast internet. No gym, but there is good swimming pool and fitness center across the road. Overall, it a good place to stay overnight.

I would like to compliment you on your fine Hotel in Akureyri. We were two families who drove from Reykjavik and spent three nights from September 28th. Rooms :- Was spacious inspite of us having an extra bed in our room. Bathroom was very clean with hot water. Restaurant and Food :- We would all agree that the dinner we had on one of the nights at your hotel was one of the best in Akureyri. The breakfast was simple and nothing fancy. Staff :- Your staff were very courteous indeed . Here i would specifically mention your receptionist in the night shift Ms Beata . She was very helpful in assisting us in giving directions to go see the NL. Although we were unsuccessful. She is a highly efficient staff taking care of the reception and the bar. Overall i would give your hotel 5/5 and hope to stay again. Well done.
