We had a great stay at Hotel Kea. Great rooms, nice staff, and a great location in the heart of town. Rooms were extremely clean, a little small, but enjoyable. more

We stayed at the Hotel KEA for three nights in August during a large summer festival. The hotel is in the middle of downtown, and the rooms were right on the main street, making it quite loud (and Icelanders like to party). The rooms are small, but nicely designed, although a bit shabby around the edges. The bathrooms desperately need... more

We arrived on the early side, and were told that our room would be ready shortly. No matter, we went and had lunch on the rooftop of Striker (which was enjoyable, and sunny) and went to the information center, and then the room was ready: top floor, overlooking the fjord/harbor; one of the more modern interiors we stayed in in... more

Having seen other "top" hotels in Iceland, Hotel Kea is typical of Iceland's top hotel which means sparse amenities, modern decor, polite staff and free continental buffet. It's best feature is the convenient location in town at the bottom of the church steps -- even though Akureyri's city center appears to be one-third the size of Reykjavík's city center. My... more

Frankly, I am quite surprised of the negative reviews this hotel has been getting. You can check out the other reviews I wrote for the hotels we stayed in Iceland (presumably the best in each location), well, this one tops them all. Not that it is anything to write home about, but it actually looked like a hotel (not a... more

Our hotel room in September 2009 was disappointing. After reading reviews on TripAdvisor, we reserved a deluxe room (grading was standard, superior, deluxe) and felt the room was a standard plus – the “plus” being chocolates on bed pillows upon arrival, free wireless internet, and a robe with slippers for use during our stay. I would not, therefore, recommend a... more

I live in Iceland (Reykjavik) and had to go to Akureyri for the Deaf Festival that was held there. I went with 3 other people and we had 2 rooms. At first when we arrived the staff argued with us for about 30 min because we wanted to pay for the room in cash from our employer. They wanted a... more

Straightforward hotel in the middle of Akureyri. Our bedroom was small, and the bathroom was tiny, but it was comfortable enough. It's expensive but I think that's just how things are in Akureyri, given the limited number of hotels. Our room faced out onto the steps leading up to the main church, and on one occasion we were woken by... more

this was the first hotel at which we stayed in Iceland that actually had heavy shades that blocked out the midnight sun -- for that alone, I give the hotel a strong recommendation! the buffet breakfast was also the nicest we had in all of Iceland. We had an excellent rate that made this hotel the least expensive with the... more

Functional hotel with no character, rooms incredibly hot and stuffy making it difficult to sleep. The hotel bar was strangely cosy though. We didn't have dinner at the hotel as there were so many good restaurants in Akureyri (the Japanese just up the road is excellent). The staff were indifferent and unhelpful, for example, we asked were we could park... more
