This is a converted school building (before you think nostalgically of redbrick Victorian Gothic revival grammar/public schools, forget it. We're talking high school a la 1970s here - think more High School Musical than Brideshead Revisited). The rooms are reasonably spacious and share bathrooms - we had a washbasin in our room, which was useful. Showers and loos were clean enough - remember to bring your own soap and shampoo. The hotel is 8km out of Hofn and taxis are not particularly cheap - we paid ISK 2500 for our little ride back from town. Stayed on night in July 2009.
Nobody at the desk for check-in. Waited more than 10 minutes for the (very) young man working reception. He had been showing another couple to their room.
Requested that I pay for the room in advance as they "are understaffed in the morning".

Five minutes from Hofn, but really very little to do and see in Hofn except get supplies, convenient for early morning rush to F-985 for the icecap tours.
Dinner was slow .... over 60 minutes for starters over 60 more for mains and they were understaffed (the checkin clerk doubling as server, a yound lady assisting and one person in the kitchen). At 15000 ISK, somewhat annoying (some of the guest gave up and left in the middle of their meals).
Breakfast saw one young lady trying to run the whole show on her own...
