I just returned from a week-long trip to Iceland with my two16 yr olds. We spent three nights at Eric the Red Guesthouse and it was the perfect place for us. The location is excellent, within easy walking distance of the center of Reykjavic. We stayed in a triple room with privatebath in the ground floor, which was clean and... More

The first thing that comes to mind is the location. It is close to the center of Rekyjavic yet is in a quiet area. The rooms were clean and ours had a small private bathroom. The breakfast was good, with a variety of cheeses and breads, coffee and juice. The owners were friendly and helpful. One evening we shared the... More

We stayed (with our teenage kids) for several nights, they in the attic room and we in a ground floor room. The whole place is filled with original artwork on every wall in the place save for the bathrooms, and there is an amazing view you get with the 2 skylights in the attic room. Breakfast was good and plentiful.... More

I have mixed feelings about this place. The location is excellent. The place itself has a ton of "character" -- obviously decorated in the 70's or so and not updated since. I found the owner to be both nice at times, and then quite condescending/rude (and I am not an oversensitive person). In addition to this, when I arrived --... More

A friendly welcome from the owner & decent ensuite room makes this place worth a stay. It is located 10 minutes walk from the bus station, & is located to the rear of the main church in Rekyjavic. 18,000K for the night, should have included breakfast, but as we were leaving early 4.30a.m. to catch a flight the owner said... We had a lovely 5 night stay at Erik the Red and was by far the best place we stayed in during our 12 days in Iceland. We stayed in the 3 bedded family room downstairs and found it very comfortable and cosy. Good blackout blinds for the light nights of summer. Edda and Runar are lovely hosts and are... More

I stayed here solo for a few days in August at the start of my round trip. I felt right at home in this sweet, beautifully decorated little building with the friendly hosts. The location right next to the church isn't the most central or the most scenic, but it's nice and quiet, and just a short walk to the... More

This is a small guesthouse run by Edda and Runnar. They run a small guesthouse and made us feel like welcome guests. I suggest letting them know your estimated time of arrival as they could be out on errands when you arrive. But they leave a phone number on the door, if you have a phone. It is centrally located... My partner and I stayed here for 4 nights in February on the opening and closing nights of our visit to Iceland, and couldn't recommend Erik the Red more highly. The guesthouse is 10 minutes walk to the centre of Reykjavik - perfectly quiet though still easily located to stroll in and out of town for walks, hot chocolates and... More

Come here if you want genuine and warm hospitality for your stay. Although it is just across from the big church, it is not surrounded by shops and restaurants. Such amenities are only a 5- to 10-minute walk away.
