The hotel is nice but the service does not correspods to four star hotel with such a pricing. The hotel has no bar or place to sit after the dinner. Durnstein is a busy place during the day, but after 6.00 p.m. majority of restaurants (there are two hotel restaurant and we found one more that was opened til 10.00... more

We stayed at this fabulous Hotel in late May 2009 and the staff, grounds, food surroundings, views, town are terrific. Restaurant for our night meal is very good, breakfast is all you could think of. The views and grounds are breathtaking. The town of Durnstein is very quaint and fun to walk. Rooms are very spacious and well appointed. Internet... more

We have to agree with some of the past reviews. This is a nice hotel in a beautiful town (and the breakfast buffet was wonderful!), but for the very high rates we would have expected a bit more. The rooms are clean and simple -- perhaps sticking with the theme of being a former convent -- however adding just a... more

We were expecting more from a 4 star hotel compared to other places we stayed in Austria. I would not recommend this for travelers looking for pampering, updated facilities, or extra amenities; those who enjoy historical properties chock full of antiques would be more likely to enjoy this hotel. The staff was not particularly friendly. The garden and restaurant were... more

We enjoyed our three night stay in the Richard Loewenherz, a quiet haven well located in the middle of attractive Durnstein and a great base for touring the Wachau. The hotel is a conversion of a former convent and the spacious public areas are crammed with religious and historic art and memorabilia, including the large crucifix which presides over the... more

for $300 a night, you would expect better than a 13 inch television, no mini bar, a tiny window and an unrenovated bathroom. the location is great though, breakfast good, and there are nice pool and grounds. the restaurant was also pretty good. i would still recommend staying in durnstein overnight as it is such a pleasant place. more

We stayed here on our honeymoon after getting married in Vienna. We had a suite with a lovely view and although the rooms are simple they are spotless and nicely furnished. We were also lucky enough to be staying during the wine festival period that was happening at the time in Durnstein. This was a great experience for wine lovers. The most notable thing... more

You really can’t beat the location of the Richard Lowenherz hotel right on the Danube river and our room had a direct view of the river and vineyards across the river. The village of Durnstein is beautiful with lots of fun little restaurants and places to wonder including going up to the castle ruins that sit above the town. The... more

It is difficult to beat dinner in the hotel veranda restaurant - great food and local Wachau wine overlooking the Danube with the floodlit castle above. A very relaxing place, with pool in beautiful gardens - everything shuts down in the village by 9 pm so it is eerily quiet at night. Breakfast is OK but in a beautiful dining... more

The Wachau Valley is a must visit destination when in Austria. We stayed for two nights at the Romantik Richard Lowenherz hotel. It certainly lives up to it's name! The hotel sits in the center of one of the most beautiful towns with incredible views of the danube river and vineyards planted on the rolling hillsides. The room was simple... more
