We were guests of the Gartenhotel Pfeffel in Dürnstein. The hotel locates outside Dürnstein along the main road where traffic sometimes disturbed the morning and evenings. The hotel accommodations were very simplye no frills - but clean and comfortable. The staff - the Pfeffel family was extremely friendly and welcoming. Stumbled upon this property after an unpleasant experience at the Stadt Hotel/Tom's in Melk. Arrived at 8 pm without making advance reservations & was greeted warmly. SHown several rooms; we picked one with a balcony & a view of the Danube. Had a charming dinner in their restaurant including two types of wine made from grapes grown on their property.... more
We were actually booked into a hotel in Krems, downriver, because we had heard how crowded Dürnstein was. When we got to Krems the hotel had booked a wedding and all the rooms were taken due to a miscalculation. The owner had already booked us into the Hotel Pfeffel. My wife and I (both italian) have just returned from a sight seeing toor through Austria. From "Vorarlberg" to "Wien" we never were so satisfied with a hotel like the Gartenhotel in Dürnstein. Durnstein is a beautiful village on the Danube, worth wil to stay for a night. Hotels are crowded, so we got outside town in the gartenhotel, said 900 m from the shipstation where we arrived.
