This "guesthouse" (actually a small hotel) provided by far the best value of any place I stayed during my recent auto tour of Austria: 35 Euro(!) for a large, bright, clean, and recently refurnished room (mattress a little firm) with large attached private bathroom. It occupies a fine-looking patrician building on the quiet, semi-pedestrianized, and well-preserved historical main street of the Stein district of Krems, a short block from the Danube. The (apparently new) owners are friendly and helpful, breakfast is ample, and parking is easy. The historical center of Krems itself is a short ride (or 15-minute walk) away. more
