Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Such a lovely hotel. Wife and I stayed here in September 2022. Very historic hotel with older rooms. The hotel it self is a bit dated, which is kinda nice as it fits in with the old hotels of Vienna, but modern enough to keep with technology of today. Very very good location, pretty much in the heart of the city, everything you need to see is within walking distance. Really enjoyed our time :)

Our annual visit to Vienna curtailed for obvious reasons but finally back last November 2022 for a weeks visit to our go-to hotel. We were delighted to be greeted and hugged by the Doorman which made our return after 3 years all the more sweet. We always stay here as it is so convenient and comfortable. We had Breakfast included for the first time and were very impressed with what was on offer. We always go for a street view room as we are used to noise and can't sleep if it's quiet! Thank you for making our stay as magical as ever but sad to see we cannot seem to book for December 2023 as there are no dates available according to your website. Best wishes to all the staff.

The staff were so brilliant, fun, efficient, very helpful. The location is superb, literally 30 seconds from the opera and from the albertina, everywhere is walking distance from the hotel. It is clean spacious and the rooms were comfortable. But the staff are really what made it magical.

2 star hozel, rather than 4 stars. Extremely hot temperature in the room, polyesther bed linen, utterly unpleasent to sleep in that bed. The neighbourhood is noisy all day, being in the main high street, so you can’t open the window. The hotel itself was built hundred years ago, and renovated probably last time in the times of the Kaiser Franz Joseph the First in the 19th Century. Very dark in the room and in the bathroom, old fashioned metal keys (anyone can still remember that?), 1906 built elevator, and so on. The staff however was nice. Very expensive, not worth a penny.

Dear PraterVienna, Thank you for your feedback. I am deeply sorry that you did not felt comfortable within our hotel. As you already said our hotel is an old and historical hotel and therefore we still use classic metal keys, which can be dropped of at the reception if you will leave the hotel during the day. For the renovation I will have good news for you - our hotel will get renovated in next year. After that the hotel will still be classic but everything will get modern. As I know that we can serve you better, it is my dearest hope to welcome you again after the renovation is finished. Hope to see you. Best regards Daniel Winkler Assistant Manager

Two outstanding positives, are the location and the staff. The staff really made me feel at home. It is a beautiful old building. I booked a small room, but was more than adequate. Modern bathroom. Breakfast was good, with a good selection of food and drinks. Will recommend this hotel.

Old classic hotel style in heart of Vienna. Kindly staff. Big room and bathroom, very good comfortable bed. Old style give us a romantic feeling for the trip. But the approach by car is difficult thing.

We stayed at the Astoria for six nights and really enjoyed it. The hotel staff are top notch, friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The location couldn't be better--one block from the Opera, a half block to the Kaernterstrasse, four blocks from St. Stephen's Cathedral, a half block to the Hofburg, with its museums and churches (don't miss the Vienna Choir Boys or the classical masses at the Augustinerkirche). We ate one breakfast at the hotel, which was very disappointing. Instead, we took a lot of our meals at the Cafe Tirolerhof, a half block away. Our room was large with a spotless modern bathroom and it faced the interior courtyard, which made it very quiet (our choice). The hotel is not air conditioned, but a tall oscillating fan was provided which kept us comfortable in mid-September. Plenty of power outlets. I would happily go back, although not in summer.

Stayed here with my brother for 3 nights as part of our European trip. The location of the hotel is perfect. Very close to majority of sights and lots of restaurants. The hotel itself is a chic old hotel with some quirks. Due to the age of the building there are only 8 rooms with air conditioning and are designated as Superior rooms. If you are visiting in summer I would highly recommend this room type. The rooms are also a bit bigger. Don’t eat at hotel so no comment on that.

This hotel, as so many have mentioned, is in a superb location, about 3 minutes walk to the hop on buses. The staff are excellent, we arrived having spent a stressful time at the airport, because our luggage had not arrived. They supplied us with toothbrushes and paste and an emergency razor (my husband didn’t try it ) . On checking out we asked for a taxi, but was informed that the inner ring Strasse was closed due to a parade. We needed to get to the train station, and the bell boy(man really) collected as much of our luggage that he could carry and took as through the streets to an available taxi, our hero! The downside of the hotel, again well mentioned is the heat in the room, there was a fan but didn’t really help much. I also found the room noisy, we were overlooking the street and although lovely during the day with all the hustle and bustle, seen from the balcony, after dark the street is full of noisy people, and from dawn there was a constant stream of clanking dustcarts and delivery vehicles. Perhaps a room on the side street might be quieter. We enjoyed our stay there for staff and location, but not heat and noise!

This is a gracious old hotel with lovely public rooms, elegant stairways and hallways. The bedrooms and bathrooms are of good size, comfortable and well appointed. The breakfast was excellent- superb quality with a wide selection available. The staff were all friendly and helpful. This was all great, great and great... BUT- to us, the mind-blowing feature was the location. It is on a quiet, dead end side street about 100 meters off Kartner StraSSe, the beautiful central pedestrian mall. It is a 5-10 minute walk to the Cathedral, the Royal Palace, the museum precinct, concert halls and the Opera House. It couldn't have been a better location.
