This was our first visit to Norway, despite being seasoned European travellers. We found Den Bla Dor to be a very authentic guesthouse in the pretty low level Kampen area of the city, reachable by an extortionately expensive £6 10 minute bus ride (recommend the flexi-card, a bargain at 150NOK allowing for 8 trips) or a 30 minute brisk walk from the train/bus station. We opted for the delicious and filling breakfast, which sets you up for a day in sub-zero temperatures, keeping in mind Oslo isn't the cheapest place to eat out! All in all, very impressed with our stay and would recommend Den Bla Dor to any other first-timers; don't be put off by the location which can compare as quite far away from the city centre - you'll be rewarded with a great sense of authenticity.
Be sure to visit the Nobel Peace Centre in Aker Brygge, Vieglandsparken and also the Slottsparken, location of the royal palace.
