Let me start by stating the hotel web page: "The Clarion Hotel Ernst is a modern first class hotel in the heart of the city". It is more or less in the heart of the city but it is neither modern nor first class. The lobby is fancy, but the rooms are terrible and complaints are not listened to by... more

Stayed here one night as a stop on an arranged tour. Hotel is under extensive renovation in the lobby and common areas (not sure why they chose grey walls, in a cloudy, rainy city?). The elevator broke down a few times as it was stressed from our larger group. Room was comfortable, with very comfortable beds. Breakfast was better than... more

Have stayed at this hotel a couple of times before, but we were not told that they were in the middle of a total renovation project. This caused some noise, but from the looks of it, it will turn out good eventually. We had booked a somewhat upgraded room, and it was quite ok. High ceiling, which made it kind... more

No parking near the hotel. Tried to order some food as i arrived late and had to drive around town to find some place to park. To get into the hotel parking i would have to order this when booking the room, well...no info about this either when booking. Ordering food was good, the nightclerk was helpfull and offered the... more

Location of the hotel is great, right in the middle of town and close to the harbour. Staff is polite and service minded. If you usually choose from where you get the biggest smile and have the shortest walk to town centre, I guess you'll be pleased. If you also have room standard, food and the possibility of a good... more

As a regular Summer visitor to Kristiansand and the Ernst Hotel, it is sad to see the gradual decline in the general decor of the rooms. The single rooms are generally very small - one could definitely not take a cat let alone swing it! Carpets in the corridors are in some areas very thin and dangerous as there are... more

Nice location, took me all of five minutes from the train station to actually being in the suite. For a tired soul - priceless. However - right off the bat. Seeing as it is a four-star hotel and i was lodged in a suite, you'd expect to at least have a bathrobe? The shower cabinet drain was faulty. Shower floor... more

Lousy bed. No Air Conditioning. Now some might say that it's not needed, but something needs to drown out the music that plays in the courtyard till the wee hours of the morning. I won't stay here again. The afternoon staff was nice though more

Management response from

Thank you for your review! You are of course not the only one who have complained about the noice from our nicht club "NightCap" and "Africa Bar". From the 1st of January 2009, these night clubs is closed permanently. During this year, the hotel will be renovated, and the areas will be converted into conference facilities. Hopefully we will see...

The hotel is situated within walking distance of the port and is first class in all departments, the only fault it has is lack of drawer space in the well appointed bedrooms. The food is excellent, if a little expensive, but no more so than the rest of Norway. It is well worth a visit and I would have no... more
