We took the airport shuttle into town to one of its stops at the SAS Hotel Bryggen (pronounced Brew ghen)on the water, in the main wharf area, and then we only had to wheel our luggage about 4 blocks to our hotel. We were thrilled to find it so quickly. It was marked budget; however, we were quite pleased. After... more
This is a really bad hotel. Poor standards, very small rooms, not really clean, kind of smelly, and pretty old. Staff is polite and helpful, breakfast is complete but that's pretty much it. Would strongly advise to pay more (this is one of the cheapest hotel in Bergen, even though it's real pricy for what you get), to obtain better... more
I love this hotel. I stay there every year. I'm very comfortable there and I enjoy everything about it. Sure, it's not a 5 star but who needs that? It is still lightyears nicer than many hotels/motels I've stayed in and plus, Norway is outside. The breakfast is great. The rooms are rather big for a this kind of place... more
Good value for money. This hotel does not pretend to be anything but a budget hotel, and that is what you'll have to keep in mind when staying here. The room we had was on the 9th floor, with a view over the park and the mountains. The windows could be widely opened, which was nice as it was hot... more
Talk about being stuck in the 70's! This hotel is the definition of a budget hotel, absolutely no thrills, old carpet, furniture that belongs on the side of the road, and a bathroom reminiscent of summer camp. Yes, we are in Norway, but it is absolutely unbelievable that you can spend this kind of money and get this type of... more
Positive: One of our less expensive stays in Scandinavia. Close to the waterfront and easy walking to Brygge tourist sights. One easy block to airport shuttle stop. Good breakfast. Internet access off lobby. Apparently new, soundproofing windows that opened for fresh air. Negative: Significantly dated hallways and rooms, particularly the bathrooms. Didn't receive the Thon discount we signed up to... more
A great location, big rooms, fantastically comfy beds, and richly varied buffet breakfast, on top of affordable rates makes this hotel a good choice for me. If you are flying into the city, take the express airport bus all the way to the last stop, get off, and walk 2 min., there is your hotel. more
We paid 865 NOK in early Sept 2007 for this double room including breakfast buffet. (Joining Thon Frequent Stay club netted us a 5% discount!). Good: - Great location for sightseeing right in the historic Bryggen district near the castle, waterfront, and old part of town. - Rooms were typical Scandinavian - all the basics, no frills. Everything was perfectly... more
A soulless high rise block in a convenient location, very close to Bryggen and the end stop on the airport bus. The breakfast buffet was good, with plenty of choice and frequent top ups. Our room (#355) was very small, and the "queen" bed was barely big enough for two. The shower had no separate drainage, which meant the whole... more
