Arriving in Kristiansund on a cold, wet Sunday evening in September, we looked forward to a nice meal, and a warm comforting room. I don't know whether it was the Receptionist's idea of a joke (he looked like a student doing his weekend job), but he put us on the 4th floor, even though the place seemed to be virtually empty. There is no elevator, and we had to struggle up the narrow staircases with large, heavy suitcases. The room itself (like the rest of the hotel) was fairly scruffy, and the entire building stank like a smoker's convention. Perhaps luckily for us, the restaurant seemed to have shut up shop for the winter - so we went out and found Kristiansund's claim to culinary fame - the fish restaurant, Smia, which was excellent. Didn't even begin to make up for the hotel though....
