The previous reviews concerned me. I was happy with the basic lot of the hotel. The receptionist was very helpful. The general appearance was certainly rather tired but I expected this based on the reviews. Breakfast was ok and the service good.

Accept this hotel for the value and location and forget all the negative reviews. The place was clean, the staff polite and helpful and the food was good. The location is excellent. The hotel is old but is constantly being improved. For what you pay, you won't get better all round value.

Very unpleasant experience........what should have been a very special occasion was ruined by staff unable to deliver a simple afternoon tea. (due to higher management disfunction). Suggest staff go on a catering course (and Management) and learn the art of presentation (the local College has catering and hospitality facilities)or.....not bother offering such services.

Well....I was here at the same time as the previous reviewer, in fact the only good part of the stay was when we all got chatting and compared how bad it was....so bad it was funny! When I entered my room it felt like the old days when my Mom would pack me off to my Nan's house for the... More

the hotel is in a good position but could do with a uplift The room was clean and the staf were very helpfull. If you just want to use this as a base and get youre head down then his hotel is ok. Any more than that and I would look elsewhere.

'Tired' would be a generous description - the lift should be condemned - so old it's hard to describe - even the staff commented they had given up on asking the owner to fix it - I just don't know how the elderly could cope. Corridors are battered - rooms have new carpets and are warm and clean but the... More

On 30th Deceber 2012 I stayed at the Albany Lions Hotel, centrally and ideally located on Eastbourne's Grand Parade overlooking the sea. This was my second stay at the hotel as part of New Year's celebrations courtesy of an excellent local coach company from Needham Market, Ipswich - Angus Coaches. As soon as our coach drew up outside the hotel... More

We stayed for 2 nights, but wanted to go home on 1st night. Rooms were in a poor state and we swapped rooms twice. 1st room full of furniture with no purpose and a terrible banging noise and 2nd room had a broken lock with bad conditioned furniture and the threat of pigeons flying in your room!. The corridors are like... More

Yes, it's true that this establishment is a little downtrodden; it certainly could benefit from a makeover (couldn't we all?) but if the owner were to do that it would inevitably put the prices up. And this venue IS good value for money. It's a very typical seaside hotel, a little faded glory but a lot of fun. The rooms... More
