Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were told to come here because our flight was cancelled and rebooked for the following day. We were told by the airline meals and drinks would be included. We arrived in the morning, the hotel looked old and tatty on the outside. Reception was open but no one around. A sign by a phone said ring 200 for assistance - did this but no answer, rung the general hotel number - again no answer. The hotel smelt musty and appeared unkept. Mouldy old sofa cushions propped up behind the reception, and the bar area a building site. After waiting for an hour in reception we gave up, paid for our return to the airport and to a premier inn. We had a lucky escape!! Honestly I didn’t believe hotels like this still existed in the UK. I suppose it could be a theme hotel!

On arrival we walked into the extremely dated, dismal, uncared for reception area. Nobody there. Had to ring 200 from the phone on the desk. A woman comes from across the way and checks you in.......strange...... The stairs had an awfully old threadbare carpet, alarm bells were now ringing in my head!! On entering the room it was ok but not at all how I had expected it to be. Booking.com need to seriously take this hotel off thier site. It was absolutely freezing in there. The radiator needed bleeding. On our way out for the day I once again dialled 200 from the desk phone, explained the situation the the woman, she said it would be sorted. When we returned, it hadn't.....and the window was wide open!!!!! Apparently this is what the cleaners do when they clean. Speaking of which, all the cleaner did was empty the bin and pulled the covers up on the bed, they didnt actually make it. The radiator was sorted for last night but the whole room still felt so cold, my hands and face felt like I was stood outside on an icy day. That was enough we booked into a lovely hotel 4 miles away and left!! WARNING WARNING WARNING 🚫⛔ DO NOT STAY HERE. OUR TAXI DRIVER THOUGHT THE HOTEL/HOVEL IS USED AS A FRONT FOR SOME ILLEGAL GOINGS ON!!

Booked through Expedia before reading reviews, wish I had as husband needs a lift and they booked another disabled occupant in a room up 23 stairs. Immediately cancelled by messaging hotel twice and sending a letter. All 9 days before visit. They still charged me £70 claiming we were a no show because we had not cancelled through Expedia. I cannot understand why they are still on web sites when you read reviews.

I unfortunately booked this hotel without reading the reviews. My stay was for 3 nights I stayed one and barely slep a wink. I moved to a hotel I usually stay in when visiting the old town of Stevenage. I arrived to a darkened reception and met the receptionist I must say the lady was friendly. I was given a key to a room on the first floor. I couldn't believe the darkness of the corridor it was eerie. The corridor only lit up when you walked down it. The room was ok on first inspection but again very dark. I was advised that if I returned late that night I would have to ring a bell to get back in. Thankfully I came back before the doors were closed. It was on my return that evening I really noticed how dark and eerie the whole place was. I felt very uncomfortable walking to my room. In fact I placed a chair to the door that night. The next morning I was being collected at 9am and noticed when I opened the curtains that they were hanging off the rail, the carpet had stains, the bath splash was falling off, no soap and no tea or coffee. On leaving the hotel that morning not one person was to be seen it was if I was the only person in the entire pla ce including staff. I decided that evening before I returned to leave. I packed my bags and came to the reception to hand back my key but there was no one in the place. I posted it in the return box and left. When I got into the taxi the driver informed me that it was noted to be the worst hotel in Stevenage. I would avoid at all costs. What I don't understand is why this place is being advertised by TripAdvisor, Booking.com etc. Avoid this place!!!!! I paid for three night and only stayed one.

I swear someone was murdered in my room. There were blood stains on the bed sheets! The bed skated across the room when sat on and no hot water on arrival. Avoid this hotel at all costs. I hardly slept a wink.

Upon arrival the free private parking looked promising. Until you go inside and have to wait a very long time for anyone to appear at the reception desk. When we booked the room, the pictures showed a corner large bath tub. I emailed the hotel to ask if i could have a room with this large corner bath and the hotel responded saying they are happy to accept this request and will make sure we have said room. Upon finally checking in, we were given a room with a standard bathroom (small tub) and told that we would have to pay £110 to be upgraded. (i did say i wouldn't have booked the room in the first place if they didn't accept my request.) i then asked if there was a complaints email i could write too as i could have spent my £85 on another hotel that could meet our requirements. The lady said there is no one to complain to. Once in the room, the door wouldn't lock at all from the outside when we went out so we were worried about our belongings in the room. After checking in, there was no one at all on reception all night or morning. The hotel was like a ghost town. We went into the bar where one Italian man was sitting who did not speak even a word of English (honestly) and it was very difficult to communicate with him. Once we finally managed to ask for 2 cans of coke. He said they were £5!! The outside door gets locked at 11pm apparently. No way of getting back in unless you ring for ages. There was no restaurant like in the pictures and despite the lady saying the better rooms are all booked up. No one was around at all. I would never stay here again and i really wish i read the other reviews before booking as clearly my experience isn't uncommon. They definitely need more staff. (or any staff) to greet people or at least help guests with queries. Upon check out, no one was there again so left key on desk. I feel £85.00 is a lot for what this is.

Really don't like writing negative reviews, but this was not a good experience. Nobody on desk, no key for outer door, so I had to be back earlier than I had planned. Room was Ok, but bar and kitchen never looked like opening.

So me and my friends where going out for my 21st birthday in Hertford on 29th September, as we was going to be drinking we needed a place to stay, and this hotel come up as the cheapest with good reviews. We all decided to book in for it, bearing in mind it was oly 4 adults. When we booked this room we selected that there was 4 occupants going to be in one room, it then gave us a family room. All booked and reserved for us with no issues at all. We booked this in a couple of days before we was due to stay. On the day 2 hours before we was going to leave to check in at the hotel and start getting ready, my friend recieved a call saying our room has been cancelled after asking who was staying in the room, and said she doesn't allow 4 strangers to be in a room together. We was not 4 strangers we was 4 friends!! After my friend accepted that our room was cancelled she then asked the lady if we can rebook and do 2 rooms, with two people in each. The women agreed that it would be ok. As it was my birthday two of my friends turned up before me and wanted to put some balloons in the room, this is when the lady kicked off and said she doesnt allow balloons in the room and we have to leave immediately. She then cancelled our room for the second time today!!! Our two friends who already was there left and called us to inform us what had gone on. We then arrived at the hotel to speak to the lady to see why we could not stay as we could not get through on the phone. The women explained that she does not want her regulars effected by us. We are not a loud bunch and I know its my 21st but her manner was just rude. Everyone was young first and the way she penalised us due to our age was ridicolous!! It was such a stressful night trying to find another hotel otherwises the whole evening would of been ruined and this took weeks to arrange. The women decided to tell us when we arrived that she does not allow young people, but where is that stated on her online advertisement of the hotel? She also advised that she has a strick time of return at mid-ngiht, which was also never stated. I would never recommened this hotel to anyone, it has false advertisement, rude staff and stinks when you walk in the reception.
