Compelled to stay here as all Newcastle Hotels full for Great North Run. This is simply the worst hotel I have ever paid £100 to stay in. It seems most of it burnt down a few years ago. Just a shame the fire didn;t manage to ravage the whole lot. Tired, dated, weird staff, appallingly poor breakfast. A horrible mega... more

As both of us are not in the best of health and have mobility problems, this town centre hotel seemed to be an ideal place to stay. Granted, we did only pay £170 for three nights, but this is quite a lot for us so we expected a little better, especially seeing as we thought it had been refurbished after... more

This hotel is friendly, central and quiet. We were welcomed by a very helful lady on reception who guided us to the bar we were aiming for. Had an excellent nights sleep, followed by a lovely continental breakfast. There was plenty of choice at breakfast and it was very fresh. Great value for money. more

...it's a pity it's the lowest class going. I arrived just after 9pm, hungry and tired. On arrival it was easy to find and it has free on site parking. All good so far. I checked in and asked what time did they stop serving food, to be told they haven't done meals since the Great Fire destroyed the kitchen... more

Made the mistake of booking this hotel and not checking the reviews. On arrival was advised that they had no record of our on line booking but not surprisingly they had vacancies and unfortunately were able to accommodate us. The rooms were dated, dusty and the bed linen was old and scratchy. My friend reported that her door handle was... more

Some of the hotel staff were very rude, to the point of sniggering in front of our relatives because the automatic car park door wasn't working and my husband had been stuck in the cark park. We were not warned that a fire alarm was going to be tested which caused some worry as my mother was 90 and had... more

This hotel was so terrible and the manager so rude I actually thought I was on candid camera. However, the hotel burnt down last night so that should save any further horror occurring. more

My company booked me into the Kings Head over night while I attended a training course in Darlington. Having seen the reservation fax and after seeing it had cost £75 for a 'budget double', I was expecting something reasonable. I got there lateish to be greeted by a very dingy room (no main ceiling light and about 3 wall lights),... more
