We stayed here on a Saturday night in a first floor room at the front of the hotel. Our room was right on the High Street with two clubs across the street and a taxi rank outside. We got in at about 1am from a party and in between the pubbers and clubbers staggering about and a market setting up... more

Some people are never satisfied. If you stay in a hotel built in 1400 you have got to expect it to look and feel tired. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was empty so we were expecting the food to suffer but it was outstanding and excellent value. True the noise from the High street was... more

We stayed at the Red Lion because we were attending a wedding nearby. The location in the heart of Colchester is good, but there is no parking which adds extra cost and walking time to your stay. The bed wasn't very comfortable and the shower was not wonderful. Since these are, for me, the two most important factors when choosing... more

I stayed at the Red Lion over the bank holiday weekend, as my cousin from Australia was getting married in the city. Frankly, I was pretty stunned that we were paying £90 a night. I was there with my parents in their 70s, my brother and his two young children. I was in a single, my parents in a double... more

I've stayed here several times purely because of the hotels central location: this hotel along with the George across the road really is as central as you can get in Colchester. I've stayed in several rooms, all of which are tired and in need of renovation. To give you an idea of the sort of problems, the tiles in the... more

This hotel looks amazing from the outside, and keeps it up on the inside. The staff where also really friendly, and while our room was small, it was really cozy and comfortable. Unfortunately after that things went a bit wrong; the hotel is on a high street with lots of busy pubs and clubs, so it can be a bit... more

A historic hotel full of character. As long as you take ear plugs you will enjoy your stay. We travel all over the world and rate this hotel amongst the best, much better than any 5 star 'group hotel'. If you like historical places then go. more
