Well OK, if you have to stay the night somewhere this will do the job and the desk clerk was pretty friendly when he finally appeared from his room, but the whole place has not moved on since the 1970s. Breakfast was dull and delayed by what seemed to be the late arrival of indifferent staff who seemed to think... more

I booked my stay at the Shakespeare before reading the reviews on this site, and was obviously a little concerned. I only stayed the single night, and yes the room was small, but it was clean, comfortable and I was served a good breakfast. This isn't the best hotel you're ever going to stay in, but for the price it... more

the staff was friendly and very helpful,we had a meal in the restaurant which was excellent and also joined in on there excitement on the opening of their new sunday jazz brunch which was fantastic.we were given a room that had just been tastefully furnished which was great,we had no problems or waiting with the check in which was a... more

We stayed in this hotel for one night....and what a night! The room was damp and the furniture hadn't been replaced since the 1970's, and would've been cheap even then. The bed was one of the most uncomfortable we'd ever slept in, and we both were stiff and achey the next day. Customer service is non-existent. To cap it all,... more

We stayed in this hotel for a night in September and without a doubt can say this is the WORST hotel I have ever had the mispleasure of staying in. The double room with ensuite was like a shoe box, a cracked sink at the bottom of the bed and a shower that literally dripped water when on!!! All of... more

Myself and a friend stayed at the Shakespeare Hotel, Bedford for a weekend in June. Upon arrival the reception staff were rude and uninterested. The rooms were small and unclean. The hotel is in desperate need of modernisation. On the first night we ate in the restaurant at the hotel, the food was lovely, the best thing about the hotel.... more

Jut returned after 3 nights in this hotel for my brothers wedding. Arrived to surly staff and had to ask them at the bar for my key. Bar was then closed at 10.30pm as staff were keen to go home. Room was in an outside annex. Wallpaper was peeling off every wall. Dust everywhere. Used tissues under the bed. Carpeted... more

The Shakespeare is typical of an ageing english hotel. The common area's are quite pleasant and in keeping with the hotel style. The bedrooms are badly in need of refurbishment. The room we had had ceiling paper peeling off the ceiling and had clearly not been done since the '70's! Having said that the rooms are of a decent size... more
