We booked a one nights stay at this hotel at the last minute on a Saturday afternoon and it was perfect! We stayed in the double which only cost £88 and included a choice of breakfast the next morning. Really good value. The staff were so helpful and friendly, particularly the assistant manager who went out of his way to... More

just had a fabulous stay. rooms very comfy. bed comfy and shower was great. they are just re-furbing so I imagine the rooms will become even more cosy. all staff were excellent; food is great. at last a chef who knows a good steak and how to cook a rare steak. would be good to get more free-range or organic... My husband booked us in on valentines weekend for a romantic getaway! We booked in and were shown to our room by a very nice young lady who informed us that she was covering whilst the owner was on holiday, our first impression of the 4 poster room was of how cold it felt...we thought that the heating must have... "We had a fantastic Valentines night, the food was brilliant, the atmosphere perfect and the service excellent! Kate and the other waitress were really attentive without being intrusive, just right!".

Be careful when booking a room as whilst room 2 is said to have "private facilities" this consists of a bathroom down the landing and does not mean "en suite". At £95 a night for two this is a bit pricey you would think. We complained and where realocated a room in a separate building to the main pub. The... More

Just had a great stay with my family whilst on a business trip. Great food both dinner and breakfast. Very clean, freshly decorated & spacious rooms with tv, loads of channels and tea/coffee etc. Bhup was a great host and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Much more fun and character than a chain hotel. We hope to come back.

I stayed in the four-poster room above the main bar in the last week of January, whilst working in Stevenage for the week. Although I'd usually end up staying in a dull-as-dishwater Holiday Inn or the like, this time I thought I would try something different. Attracted mainly by the fine looking food on the menu (found on the website),... More

Great promise from the website, and the man we spoke to when booking. As it was winter and they were empty, he said, we could have £10 off the room, which turned out to be in the cold outer building and NOT the historic part of the house that has all the hyperbole is about in Sawdaw's review. We asked... More

Have been to the bar here several times and eaten here before but we stayed fo the first time last night and loved it. The new owner Bhup and his wife Rachel are very friendly and we were treated very well. The room was fine with a comfy bed. The best bit was the food and beer. Both dinner and... More

Dear Guests Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately we may well have seem shocked when you arrived at 1.30am as it was your wedding night and we had not been made aware ahead of time. My staff went home at 11.30pm and as mentioned at the time of booking we do not have 24hour check in. It was pure chance... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
This delightful country inn was built in the 14th century and retains all the traditional features including inglenook fireplaces and a wealth of exposed beams. Following its closure last year we have carried out extensive refurbishment of the pub and rooms. This has resulted in us being awarded 4 star inn status by the AA reflecting the high standard of the accommodation. We have also been fortunate to find a fantastic chef who is using fresh and, where possible, locally sourced produce to create unpretentious modern dishes. We look forward to welcoming you to The Brocket Arms. ... more   less
