On arrival early one Friday we found the place very empty, staff were not that interested but did show us to room. Shower opening was just wide enoug for me to squeeze in. Noise from the A34 was constant and made it difficult so sleep at night. We were part of a large party for dinner but considering that the... More

I have only been to eat and at the invitation of others. To date my experience is one of disappointment from the perspective of the food. I have had cold mashed potatoe three times in six months, and fellow dinners have had tepid meat. This consistent poor quality is unacceptable in somewhere that presents itself as capable quality cooking. Staff... More

We visited the Carnarvon Arms on a spring break offer in April 2013, the price we paid included room, breakfast on two mornings and a set menu on the first night. For a Marco Pierre White establishment it appeared to be a bit of a bargain at £99. We had read trip advisors reviews with mixed feelings but for ninety... More

We decided to have a meal at the Carnarvon as the ownership had changed since we had last been - unfortunately very much for the worse. The waiting area was very badly lit and ordering a meal surrounded by cases of dead vermin did very little to whet the appetite. Service was slow and not very well informed. The food,... More

The most beautiful art inside!! Great service & very nice staff. Food was amazing & would recommend to anyone. Will be going back very soon. Great place to relax & downtown Abby is just down the road.

When you think of Maco Pierre White you think quality and something special. Not at The Carnarvon Arms. I am quite surprised he allows a business bearing his name to be so poor. The staff seem to be doing their own thing and not much evidence of leadership or attention to detail. Not even aware of what is stocked in... More

How sad that what was a lovely, friendly local pub/restaurant with excellent service, food and decor has now become a dark (mostly black), impersonal, and totally irrelevant for the area eating house. It's like walking into a morgue with dead stuffed birds and skeletons everywhere you look. The large comfortable leather chairs always filled with locals and passers through Newbury... More

Visited for Sunday lunch at Easter as The Yew Tree nearby was closed for refurbishment. Whilst the food we did have was OK, and I mean only OK, the very limited set menu was extremely disappointing with no offer of an a la carte menu. I know decor is a matter of taste, but we didn't like the stuffed animals... More

We decided at the last minute to book an overnight stay on our way to Bristol, what a deal, overnight stay for 2 with breakfast "£45:00". The hotel is tucked away from the A34 and what a delight, the beds were as wide as they were long and the room was cosy with all the amenities you require. The evening meal was... More

This lovely Marco Pierre White establishment is well located and is a great place for that weekend away. Food is excellent. Staff, especially, Duncan, Nigel and Sam very obliging and nothing too much trouble. Nice clean and cosy rooms but need a lick of paint and new showers installed. Rear gardens need tidying and to be made more appealing, although... More
