I stayed here many years ago when I was 11 so this was a bit of a nostalgia trip. Like many YHA properties this one could perhaps do with a little modernising but the point with YHA is that you get accommodation in great locations at a modest price. We found absolutely nothing to complain about here. We were made... More

Very warm and friendly staff. Food is excellent. The location of the hostel could not be better. Very close to the moors with loads of walks in the vicinity. Highly recommended base for landscape,Wildlife and Astro Photographers/Painters. Staff are very good guides to local area. Very family friendly. Stayed here for 4 nights as a central point for walking and cycling. No phone signal...great!!! Peace at last :) This hostel is like many in wet and remote locations, a bit on the tired side mailnly due to the elements...plenty of rain falls on Exmoor! All that said despite its imperfections it makes it up with being full of... More

We got thoroughly soaked trying to explore the surrounding moors on the bikes as a family including 2 teenage girls, 12 and 15 years. Was perfect to get back and after quickly rinsing the bikes in the river next to the tent (nice set up) to use the showers and store the bikes in the shed (needs new roof as... More

This was a warm and friendly hostel. The staff were very cheerful and happy to help us with all our needs, including helping us plan walks and even lent us a map. We had some evening meals which were good and very quick! The hostel seems to have been re-decorated since our last visit which looked good. We really enjoyed... More

After reading the previous reviews we were extremely apprehensive about staying. We arrived early, not knowing the protocol, and had a very warm welcome from Tim. He showed us the available rooms & advised us to come back at 5pm. Yes the property is tired and needs some TLC but it is spotlessly clean & the staff friendly/helpful. The showers... More

I have just returned from a short 3 night break on Exmoor staying at the Youth Hostel in Exford. A beautiful village in the heart of the National Park, with two great pubs, both serving food and family friendly. The Hostel in situated right in the centre of the village with a large garden surrounded on most sides by the... More

This was my first experience of a youth hostel and it was unfortunate it was this one! The room we had was unbelievably tiny, bunk beds with approximately a foot of space alongside them and a sink. There was no room even to get dressed properly the walls were also paper thin and there were big gashes out of the... More

Good location in heart of Exmoor, excellent for walkers, cyclists etc. Beaches approx half hour drive. Village is at the bottom of a valley, so no mobile phone signal, and radio reception in car is intermittent. Hostel staff are polite and freindly, although one night the reception was closed from approx 8.15pm for the rest of the evening. The self... More

Fantastic location, in centre of picturesque village of Exford, heart of Exmoor National Park. Ideal for walkers, cyclists etc. Also great for access to North Devon and Somerset beaches (eg Woolacombe and Minehead). Staff friendly and helpful although conspicuous by their absence on occasions. Lovely gardens surrounding main building with babbling brook (River Exe I think). Dining and lounge areas... More
