Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Great position when you’re traveling early morning to France via euro tunnel. Staff very friendly, food good for both dinners and breakfast. I like that breakfast is included in price when calculating cost, especially for a family. Bed comfortable and plenty hot water.

Hotel's Favourite
Stayed here overnight before an early train across the channel. We were pleasantly surprised with our stay. Room was a good size, enough room to lay out our cases. The hotel has a nice bar, and the food in the restaurant was actually very nice. In addition we were struck by how helpful and friendly the staff were. Finally, of course is it’s proximity to the Eurotunnel shuttle (just over 5 minutes away).

Great hotel. Staff very helpful. Great location less than 5 minutes drive from Le Shuttle. Superb rooms, very clean and spacious. Bar restaurant served fabulous food for both breakfast and evening meals. Dog friendly too, even a small section of the restaurant was available for us to use with our dog. Will definitely use again! 👍

My second visit. Had a nice room on the quiet 2nd floor. Comfy bed and pillows. Breakfast was a first there for me. It was excellent and much better than many more expensive hotels Ideal spot if using the tunnel etc or even maybe using one of the Dover ferries.

Hotel is lovely and clean, both men on reception (I imagine managers) were very polite, helpful and had a smile on their face greeting us whenever we came face to face with them. Breakfast buffet was good enough & what you would expect. The dinner menu was overpriced but tasty (although I’m not too fussy with food) my real big only downfall was the bed! as a couple I booked double room, it did state it was what was available on the day. We arrived and got a twin room, we did push the beds together to make a double bed. However, it was the most uncomfortable & hard mattress, I may as well had slept on the floor. We had to add another night stay on for a particular reason, but asked if there was another room we could move to (hoping for a double bed) unfortunately there was no other rooms available. When I checked the availability online it said 1 double room available & I was able to go ahead and reserve it. I hadn’t as we had just paid for the room we was currently in. Apart from the mattress and overpriced food, it was a lovely atmosphere, clean and very lovely staff.

Response from IHG Service, Owner at Holiday Inn Express Folkestone - Channel Tunnel, an IHG Hotel
Responded 1 week ago
Dear Steph L, Thank you for selecting our Holiday Inn Express Folkestone - Channel Tunnel while visiting Folkestone and for taking the time to provide feedback about your experience. It's a pleasure having you as our guest. I am truly sorry you did not experience an exemplary stay due to the mattress and the dinner. This is certainly below our usual high standard of service. Please be certain that I have noted and forwarded your feedback for the management to improve. In the middle of your experience, I am glad to know that our breakfast and the hotel's location were still appreciated. Please grant us the opportunity to prove ourselves again. Best Regards, Ben W. Case Manager IHG Hotels and Resorts Service

Hotel is okay..nothing special. Rooms were clean enough… in need of updating. Rooms are quite noisy so you can hear everything going on around. Location is fantastic for the channel tunnel and breakfast is really great. Staff are friendly.

Very pleasant hotel with friendly staff and well appointed clean rooms. Perfect for our stay before taking the tunnel to France. The food in the restaurant was good and there was an area we could use with our dog which is a plus. Overall pleasantly surprised as we haven’t used this Group before.

Clean hotel, friendly staff. The food was the worst quality I’ve ever tasted at a hotel. Bar staff went home early after confirming the bar was open til 12. Tried to order a last drink at 11.50 and told the bar staff had already left. Ordered food at 9.03 was told last food order at 9.10 so pointed it it was 9.03. The staff member didn’t seem happy for us to order food. I wish we had been denied food, a black and dry burger, at least I think it was a burger with something resembling bacon. A flat and greasy pizza, almost unrecognisable. Tasted in my dads words “disgusting” we only ate our chips and left the rest of the £70 worth of food. Staff didn’t ask us for feedback as to why all good left uneaten. It’s clear the cheapest frozen food had been cremated and I’m not sure it hadn’t been there for some time. Rooms and bathroom clean and comfortable

Ok the hotel is good. Great location for getting to the channel tunnel. However, it is now company policy not to sell drinks other than diet. Why not? The manager says because of the sugar tax, I pay the tax not the hotel. Bring back consumer choice. So instead of sugary drinks they sell diet with neuro toxins in that have been shown to cause cancer. IHG, Change your policy. Until you do I will not be choosing your brand of hotels again.

This was our second stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Folkestone. The pluses remain the same: proximity to the Channel Tunnel; helpful staff; dog friendly rooms and competitive pricing. Unfortunately, it now feels run down and the food was not as good. The corridors need deep cleaning. The owners need to invest and improve this property. Parking can be tight with half the car park closed off for building work. That is though no excuse for the introduction of a parking management service that threatens £100 fines for a range of possible offences. You know a hotel company has zero commitment to customer service when there are more signs threatening you with fines for incorrectly parking than welcoming you to the hotel. All despite the fact they take no responsibility for any damage or loss to your vehicle while parked there. OK for one night before an early Tunnel crossing. However, eat elsewhere and, most importantly, don’t forget to register your car for parking.
