What an experience. I guess you get what you pay for (great value for money) but this was something else! We stayed in room 27 and it was disgusting. The table tops were sticky, the bed tiny and musty smelling blanket. Window wouldn't stay open so had to wedge it with a shoe. No shower in room - just one... More

Dear Miss Trousdale please accept my apologies that the budget double reserved was not up to our normally high standards. my housekeeping team did indeed let us down by missing the spilled drink. in regards to bed size, the "budget" name refers to rooms that are smaller than our standard sized bedrooms. if we had been informed that the bed... Have just returned from two day break at this hotel and I have to say that although the room was clean it is very basic and the whole hotel is very tired looking. Both my wife and I were also far from impressed with the breakfast, my wife asked for scambled eggs and got a chopped up omellette. The staff... More

Dear Mr Jay thank you for your recent review about the room allocated [room 101] on your recent 2 night stay Its a shame no mention during your stay, as we have completed some balcony rooms and I would have been happy to move you elsewhere. In regards to room 101, this is scheduled for redecorating in October. I have... More

Enjoy my stay here, its very basic, but the bed sheets were very clean, the evening meal was ok, but the breakfast and sunday lunch was lovely. I would stay here again, its old fashion, but you get what you pay for.

Stayed here for 2 nights on business. Tired looking room but peaceful and warm. I had a room facing the town out the back. Very old furniture, something that you would find on antiques roadshow. The wardrobe was nice and big, a bit like Narnia. The tv was tiny, I thought it was one from the back of a car... More

Dear ghappster1 I like the Narnia quote, maybe we should put copies of the book in all rooms!! the 19 inch flat screens do look small in some of our larger rooms so this is something we can review when we upgrade. contact me direct [ian@thesouthcliff.co.uk] when you book your next stay. regards Ian More

Enjoyed a 4 night stay at the Southcliff as part of a Travelstyle coach holiday. Found the staff pleasant and helpful and the food excellent for the price we paid. The accommodation is clean and comfortable, although the furnishing could be updated.

Dear Barry thank you for your valued comments. due to size of the hotel, it is a costly and time consuming project updating rooms and furniture. we have recently completed a double room with balcony [room 11], so on your next visit, please call us before to see if this room is available [sea view supplement charges will be applicable]... This has to probably be the worst hotel I have ever stopped in. Firstly the plus points, reasonable breakfast and good location being close to the Channel Tunnel and ports. After that it just goes downhill. The hotel is very tired decor wise; everywhere needs a major refurbish, especially the bedrooms. The curtains were so thin; they kept hardly any... More

Stayed one night in this Victorian building. The public areas were very well kept. However, I was quite surprised at the condition of my room. Very basic, in need of redecoration. We stayed one night on route to the tunnel crossing and reading reviews we thought this was a safe punt. How wrong could we have been, the room was tired is an under statement. stayed for a couple of nights in April (sat & sun) at £25 per night for a sea view room with breakfast, it was excellent value for money - hard to beat. Dear Izzy96 thank you for your recent review. as noted, we are working our way through our 75 bedrooms, but this is a costly task and hopefully we will have 50% of rooms done by end of this year. it was a shame the first room was not to your liking, but good to hear the 2nd room was better....
