Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Annabel was a fantastic host. I spent two nights - a rest day while walking Offa’s Dyke. Annabel put me onto the market and happily recommended a great coffee shop. my room had a lovely seating area looking out a big window. My breakfast was lovely and gf cookies had been provided in my room. And if I wanted to do my daily visit report there was a table that comfortably fit in front of the chair. I enjoyed Hay and hope I’ll find an opportunity to return and when i do I’ll be booking La Fosse.

We stayed here in 2 rooms whist walking Offas Dyke. Annabel was a fantastic host who was so accommodating, friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. Our rooms were on the top floor (twin and a double) and were very clean, and full of character. Although we did not need it, there was private 0ff-road parking. I would have no hesitation in recommending this Guest House and would happily stay there again.

It was great to reach La Fosse after a long day's walk on the Offa's Dyke path. Annabel could not have been more welcoming and made us feel very much at home. The building is full of character and not surprisingly, given the location, full of books and book posters! Breakfast was substantial and very tasty. Just what we needed to propel us on the next leg of our walk!

Our first stay and Annabel was so kind and friendly. This B&B is perfectly positioned for the end of the Offa's Dyke stage, with the Blue Boar Inn just down the road for excellent beer and food. Annabel welcomed us, as we appeared rather bedraggled, muddy and damp at her door, without any fuss, unfazed, and showed us to our comfy room. With delicious Welsh cakes and lots of tea we recovered. Breakfast the following morning was excellent and we tucked into a complete, tasty Full English breakfast supported with lots of tea and toast. This really is an excellent B&B. We highly recommend it and hope to return soon.

Really pleased to have been able to stay here. Annabel was attentive and has made lots of adjustments to keep her guests safe during the pandemic. She kindly washed and dried my muddy wet cloths and the breakfast was lovely. The room was cozy and had all I needed. The location was also very good. Thank you for a lovely stay, I felt safe as a solo traveller. Ill be back! Annabel - just check out the shower in the double top room (sorry cant remember the number!) the holder needs some attention as it cant hold the shower head, probably just needs a screw tightening!

Having had a rare weekend off I booked La Fosse as the B&B we used before is now closed. The owner was friendly from the start and we were pleased she had a room free. We were able to leave our car whist we went around Hay. Coming back in the afternoon we met the owner, she was very friendly and helpful. Our room was cosy and clean. Breakfast was very hearty with a lot of choice. We went for the full English which was delicious. A nice chat before we went home and I think this will be a regular for us. Thank you for the stay

We received a very warm welcome from Annabel who very kindly did a load of washing for us too. Our room was very comfortable and breakfast superb, just what we needed before another long day of walking. I would highly recommend this B&B.

Cycling chum and I stayed only for one night and would have liked to linger, but had a schedule. We had a warm and friendly welcome from Annabel who immediately provided a secure parking place for our bikes. The literary ambience was great and the breakfast was very good. I can strongly recommend La Fosse. Thank you Annabel and Bob.

So I have recently been making my way up the Offa's Dyke Path and after a long day hiking over the Black Mountains and arriving in Hay-on-Wye, I was in need of somewhere to stay. I hadn't booked a B&B but was advised to ask at La Fosse from the Tourist Centre. This turned out to be great advice. Luckily, they had a room! First impressions upon meeting the owner at the door, she was so sweet and lovely! Extremely welcoming, she told me that the room is a double but for an individual it would be £50. I didn't think this was too much! She showed me the room which was really well presented. Lovely, comfortable bed! I liked how she didn't provide small, one use bottles of shampoo and shower gel etc. but had obviously just been to the local shop and bought normal sized bottles of each for you to use and leave. Totally on the 'save plastic' band wagon which is always a plus! I loved the place, squeaky doors and floor boards, quirky staircase and homely rooms, full of character! During all of this, we had been chatting about lots of general chit chat, including my hiking. I had mentioned that I was planning a big 30 mile walk the next day from Hay-on-Wye to Knighton. She had obviously been listening as she later mentioned that breakfast was usually between 8am and 9am, but that I would probably want to get off earlier. So offered to meet me in the breakfast room at a time that suited me. So she made me some breakfast at 6.30am before my departure at 7am. The breakfast was great and the service overall was undeniably amazing! To add to how great Annabel had been, I had forgotten my headphones but didn't realise until an hour into my walk. So I rang the B&B and Annabel promptly registered that it was me and let me know I had forgotten my headphones and asked for my address to send them to. I would highly recommend this B&B if you are thinking of visiting Hay-on-Wye, it is very well located, the service is brilliant and the rooms will not disappoint! Hay-on-Wye is a lovely place to visit as well!
