When we planned a trip to the UK to celebrate our anniversary, York House was recommended to us for our visit to Hay-on-Wye. We are so glad we stayed at York House! It was the highlight our trip. Margaret and Jim are the consummate hosts. They made us feel very welcome and were attentive to every need. We stayed in... More

My wife and I stayed here for a night as part of our tour of the southwest and parts of Wales. The house was ideally situated for Hay-on-Wye and the hosts were extremely friendly and welcoming. The breakfast we had was good. We stayed in the Clifford room which overlooked the lovely garden. Our feelings of the room was that,... More

We were very disappointed at your review of York House especially since we have been running the B & B for six years and this is our first negative review. Our Clifford Room is the smallest of our four rooms, it is decorated in light floral wallpaper and it is a very pretty room with lovely views over the garden... More

Picked this B & B after reading other reviews and we certainly made an excellent choice. York House is beautiful - set in lovely grounds in wonderful countryside. We were met by Margaret who could not have been more welcoming and were shown to our room (Tretower - a very large beautifully decorated room at the rear overlooking the garden).... More

York House is a property that I always imagined as an English country house – a huge back garden, with fields at the bottom of the garden. Plenty of areas where one could sit and listen to, or watch, the birds. My wife & I were greeted by Jim and Margaret and offered coffee and cake while we rested from... More

What more could you want from a B&B. Lovely warm owners. Beautiful room and gardens. Comfortable bed. Great breakfast with fresh fruit, homemade jams, and more. We were two tired cyclists and we felt like we had two new friends and a second home within the first thirty minutes.

We enjoyed our time at the York House during a recent bike trip. Our room was comfortable and nicely decorated. The bathroom was spacious. Breakfast was delicious. Margaret keeps a lovely garden, fully in bloom during our stay. Jim was welcoming and so much fun to talk to. He is a fellow biker, so gave some good suggestions on routes... More

York House was built in 1893 and is of an unusual 'back to back' construction. It has a large south-facing garden with far reaching views of the surrounding hills. We fell in love with this pretty house and opened as a B&B in March 2007, it has much to offer the traveler with it's beautiful quiet location just a short walk from the bustling market town of Hay-on-Wye. ... more   less
