The cafe owned by the Grove Hotel has been opened about 3 months. We went in today for a cup of coffee and a sandwich. 2 tables including ours were occupied. The coffee was very nice but very small. The sandwiches did not arrive. My husband asked how long they would be and the staff had clearly forgotten. We didn't... More

To much to write about , Brits should in general not work in this service industry.

Previous stays here meant that to some extent we were forwarned. There is much to like about this eccentric down at heel central hotel. The staff try hard, WiFi is free and breakfast is fine if you don`t want a fry-up. But Oh dear, the rooms are a bit of a joke. We had a small, dark double with Heath-Robinson... More

We had checked in to the Grove after bus home didn't arrive. We knew that the normal Double room rate was £50, but sometimes late bookings are charged more.at certain hotels. We found the door locked at eight when we arrived but an off duty staff member arrived and got us in. The reception is on the first floor next... More

We stayed here as there was no where else to stay in Buxton. The entrance seemed Ok but it soon became obvious that this hotel needs a lot of money spending on it to return it to its former glory - it looked very tired. The room was dark and basic, however, the place was clean or as clean as... More

Stayed in the hotel for one night. Greeted warmly by staff who were only to keen to show us round and help. Our room was comfy, clean and all the basics were supplied. WE were told when we booked in that the breakfast wasnt continental, but that wasnt a problem for us. There was plenty of cereal, juice, toast and... More

This is not the hotel for safe accommodation. Mouldy bathroom, falling wallpaper, dust, water marks on the walls... Luckily, we stayed only for one night and company paid for that. Women on the reception was nice, but with a smile, she let us stay in a room with no working shower. We were told they will fix it. Nothing changed... More

The rather grand entrance soon gives way to an air of tlc deficiency and, by the time you get into the bedroom, decay. It badly needs maintenance and decoration. Paper hangs from the ceiling in huge balloons. Bizarrely, there is no cold water for the bath or shower in my room. When challenged about why they let the room out... More

Rang the day before to book to peruse Buxton at leisure and go for drinks around town. Wasn't disappointed. Paid £55 for 2 with a continental type breakfast. Although old fashioned and creaky floors, we were impressed. although we didn't eat there or drink, the bar and coffee lounges were very nice and old fashioned. We would/will stay there again.... This hotel is in an excellent position right in the centre of Buxton and is in easy reach of all the park and historic buildings. The food at the hotel is second to none and cooked to perfection, I recommend the Home Made Pie & the Steak, which is cooked to perfection, the rooms are lovely and very relaxing, any... More
