We booked two nights at this charming guest house in order to explore the town of Buxton as well as the surrounding areas; it proved to be an ideal choice as it is situated right on the corner of the beautiful Pavillion park gardens and Opera House as well as being only a couple of minutes walk from the main... We stayed just the single night at Oldfield for the Richard Hawley concert at the Buxton Opera House, which was incredible, and wished we were staying longer! Looking at previous reviews the word 'dated' in relation to the decor is extremely harsh. The furnishings are decidedly old-fashioned but in the most charming and lovely way, everything is laid out beautifully... More

This Year so far has been unusual in that most of our Guests, but not all, have been in their 20's and 30's and without exception just like this couple have been absolutely charming, polite, communicative and appreciative of the what we are providing. It makes us feel good about what we do. Although we are only in February we... More

It was a lovely house, which was very close to the opera house. We went to see a play that was very interesteing and enjoyable. The house has a beautiful garden although we did not see it as it was covered in snow. The owners, Avril and Colin were very friendly people who provided a very tastyn vegetarian breakfast. We... A lovely couple and we are so pleased they had a very enjoyable time. Coincidentally we went to the same Agatha Christie play "Murder is announced" and we also enjoyed it. The Opera House is a spectacular venue and offers a very wide range of performances. This couple stayed in the same room as the previous reviewer and as you... More

Bit of a mystery why this particular B&B isn’t much higher up the Trip Advisor list. I can only presume it’s the lack of reviews, because there’s nothing intrinsically wrong with it. So just because the B&B ends up rating low on the list, this isn’t a horror show. Oldfield is however, a little bit dated (to the extent where... More

On balance fair comment apart from one two issues. First this is a Victorian House over 100 years so it is not a modern Hotel. Second the carpet referred to was installed by John Lewis plc (the UK's leading store) this Year (2012) and cost over £1,000 following water damage to its predecessor. (We have the receipt for inspection) The... More

This was one of the highlights of our week in England. House, hosts, breakfast and dinner: all wonderful. We shared dinner with other visiting couples and it was lively and entertaining, and the food and wine excellent. Strongly recommend staying at Oldfield House if you are any where in the vicinity. It's a bit hard to find so follow Sue's... More

We spent last weekend there and would recommend. Clean, tidy and a lovely house. Gardens pretty and on a nice day would be great to sit in and read a book (unfortunatley the weather wasn't that good). Good home cooked breakfast and friendly owners. Thanks

I booked this short break as I was doing a course locally and wanted somewhere nice to stay, they do evening meals which was also a deciding factor for me. The house is set in a quiet village, in beautiful countryside with no street lights so clear skies at night (weather permitting) as no light pollution. My hosts, Sue and... More

What a fabulous place – we stayed for the weekend and already cannot wait to go back. This stylish Victorian guest house is situated next to the park, very close to the town centre and near the town’s pubs, bars and restaurants. Buxton is a charming town with something for everyone - from the colourful Pavilion Gardens, Opera House practically... More

The breakfast times have been 8.00 to 9.15 for the last 10 Years but we always ask all our Guests if this is OK. I should point out that in August and indeed most of the Year our Guests wish to arise early enough to take in the wonderful countryside and visitor attractions to make full use of their day.... Found this guest house on trip adviser, ideal location in peak district for walking & cycling. Just outside town centre with plenty of amenities and places to eat. It is very nice to have people appreciate what we do for them. Your reviewer makes a good point about freedom to come and go as many places still discourage daytime returns also we only ask our Guest whether they would like a cooked breakfast including vegetarian or Continental but we don't ask them to fill in a form to...
