The staff were untidy and the chife later returned to the hotel drunk and rude. the rooms were okay cleaned to a high standered all in in all i would not recomened this hotel. This place needs some serious management to bring it up to scratch. A party of four we called for a meal which was cold and on the second attempt to get a hot meal we were too embarrassed to return it a second time. Food below average. Pudding was served with the spoon stuck in the middle of the serving... more

Myself and my partner manage a small inn in the lake district and must say we did enjoy our stay. I booked it as a birthday present for my partner and then alton towers the next night. The service was okay and we were the only people staying at the inn. We stayed in there best room, it was comfortable... more

Great hotel. A group of us stayed there for a couple of nights in April. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very comfortable with a great flat panel TV and really nice Italian style bathroom with marble/limestone (I think). The food was amazing! So much so we ate there both nights. There are also great views... more

Stayed here for one night recently on a touring trip of the Peak District. What a great little place. The room was clean, had great touches like a mirrored large flat screen TV and the bathroom was magnificent! You look at the bathroom and then do a double take to remind yourself you're in a country pub. The bar lady... more

A mixed review from all members of our party of 14. The place is worth going to for the fantastic food but the management have a thing to learn about running the place. Various other reviewers refer to the great service and 'above the call of duty' of "Mark". He is no longer there..... Starting with the absolute positive -... more

We stayed here for dinner, bed and breakfast on 29th December 2007 for a relaxing get away to recover from Christmas entertaining. We'd made a good choice - the cosy bar had a very welcoming atmosphere when we arrived in from the cold and wind of Longnor. The landlord was friendly and the staff looked after us v well. We... more

Stayed for two nights at this hotel and would go back again tomorrow!! The food was great, the accommodation very comfortable, the service in the restaurant and bar very good , but above all the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. We have stayed in hotels that were far more impressive but were that starchy and unwelcoming that we were glad... more

Stayed here for 2 nights in Room 6 (top floor) - the room was very comfortable with nice furnishings, flatscreen TV, tea/coffee making facilities and lovely bathroom (shower, no bath) BUT what a shame, it is all let down by the terrible insulation (or lack of it) with the bedroom next door. Honestly, you could make out conversations word for... more

This is a difficult review for me to write. In fact I'm in two minds whether to share this with the general internet-reading public at all. Some things you want to keep special, so they're not spoiled. On balance, the new management team at the Crewe & Harpur have put in such a huge effort, and done so well with... more
