The hotel is in a really good location, with a good car park, and the staff are very attentive. Thats the good news. Our room was on the ground floor and perfectly adequate, although our window looked at a blank wall. Tthe bathroom was obviously recently refurbished but the window had not been repainted since the 1930s. Tthe carpets everywhere... more

Hotel looks great from the outside, but once you go in everything goes wrong, the communal areas are dirty, the carpet in the bar area is disgusting, looks like it hasn't been properly cleaned in months, if not years. Our room at the back of the hotel (away from the noise of the cinema next door) was very tired, the... more

Stayed there overnight in October as I had a meeting in central Banbury the next morning. The building is lovely, for these willing to stay in a 17th aristocratic dwelling. Room was comfortable was good bedding, I slept like a baby... Dinner was great with a Glass of their "Grands Vins" selection... a bit of a treat once in while... more

The Whately is a lovely 17th-century building with immaculate rooms, comfortable beds, a cozy bar and very nice restaurant. The front-desk staff is very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast buffet includes a wide selecdtion of warm, freshly-baked breads, cereals, pastries, and cooked foods. Yyou can also order items such as eggs benedict (which were wonderful) and smoked fish, and the... more

I have stayed in Banbury for the past 6 years on business and this hotel is just rubbish. The rooms smell and the bed linen is old and sometimes dirty. The service is terrible and reminds me of an epiosde of Fawlty Towers. Try the local B&B's they are usually nicer and better value. If you are determined to stay... more

We stayed at the Whately Hall Hotel for 3 nights and had a wonderful stay. The room was large, clean and comfortable, with a big en-suite bathroom. All staff were very friendly and helpful, and we especially enjoyed the buffet breakfast in the wonderful oak-panelled room. We also had drinks in the beautiful bar. The hotel has retained most of... more

My wife and I stayed here for five nights while on business travel. Whately (pronounced Wait-lee) is a beautiful old building dating back to the mid-1600's. The garden behind, and a pub with outdoor tables in front, make it a wonderful place to enjoy the ambience. The floors do creak and one feels surrounded in history; in fact, according to... more

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a week over Easter. The hotel is very old and used to be an old coaching inn from days gone by. It even has a room with a priest hole from the days of Catholic persecution. The first room we were given was lovely with oak beams and views over the... more
