Fantastic location for a hotel, on the beautiful banks of the Thames; that's the attraction and it doesn't fail on this. I booked a long weekend to celebrate a family member's birthday, to include two ground floor rooms for two disabled family members, but annoyingly only one was available on arrival. I ordered a birthday cake for dinner only to... more

We first discovered Shillingford Bridge in 1970 when we got engaged on my birthday at their Saturday night dinner dance. My birthday was last Saturday and, browsing on line, I discovered they still hold dinner dances on the last Saturday of the month - so we booked thinking it would be a romantic step back in time. Check in was... more

We stayed here as part of a wedding anniversary celebration for my parents. When we arrived it looked really good. The location by the river is very pretty with the boats moored up and the room looked nice and big. Unfortunately it went down from there. There was a wedding and cricket club on that night, so we could only... more

Just returned from 3 night break with my 2 sisters and parents (ages 49 to 84). The location on the banks of the Thames was wonderful, misty views in morning, fabulous sunsets in evening. Can't fault the place and the service was exceptional. We were not an easy party to deal with (my mother uses a wheelchair) but the staff... more

I stayed here for one night for a work event, and it was disappointing for the whole party. The rooms are a little dated, yes, but this was not the main problem. My room did not appear to have been cleaned, there was hair and scum in the sink and litter on the floor. The bed did seem to have... more

Driving south from a few days away we decided we would stop over at the next decent looking hotel we saw as we could not face the rest of the journey to Dorset a a stormy night.. We crossed the Thames at Shillingford bridge and The hotel looked a likely place to stop the night. They did not have a... more

We had a disappointing experience on our recent visit which other potential guests should be aware of if planning a special occasion. We were there recently for our anniversary and unbeknown to us, our daughter had arranged with the hotel (as encouraged on the Forestdale website) for flowers and breakfast to arrive on the morning of our anniversary. When we... more

We attended a wedding at this hotel in August 2007 and decided to stay the night. The room we stayed in was a relatively large size, but the wallpaper is dated and was also peeling away from the walls. The ceiling also had several cracks in it. The windows are difficult to open and the secondary double glazing does not... more

We have just returned after staying one night. The hotel was OK but the room number 3 smelt of foist and the bedding wreaked of stale tobacco which was still as strong the next morning this was after leaving the window open during our stay.We would stay there again but would require a premier room. Number 3 also look over... more

Luckily this was a late booking - the hotel we had originally been booked in had been flooded by the Thames, so we got here without having researched it previously on TripAdvisor. It is obvious that the hotel has been upgraded and improved, staff as well, in the last few years since those bad reviews which I have now read.... more
