Stayed at the Royal this past weekend for my boyfriends birthday on 28th to 30th November on a Sun Newspaper offer so paid £19 per room per night B&B. We had a lovely time and are confused by some of the negative comments we have seen on trip advisor and will be recommending this hotel to others even at the... more

We stayed at the Royal for one night on the 21st Nov as we were going to a wedding in Ross on Wye. The room was very nice, basic, smart and clean and just what we needed; the hotel also appeared clean and we had no problems with the hotel at all. Just a shame about the general attitude of... more

This was real value for money booked via Trip Advisor. If you want US style, cold, standard smartness of a hotel chain then look elsewhere. If you want charm, location, genuinely friendly staff and great meals then this is the place for you. From a trouble free fast check-in to the efficient check-out all the staff were friendly and professional.... more

I fail to see why anyone should see fit too complain about this hotel, unless they are very sad,and had nothing better to do with there time.Myself and my partner did visit the Royal with the special offer from the Sun news paper, how ever would have been as happy if we had been there under different circumstances and had paid full... more

Very good location. Nice-looking building outside. Inside shabby, could be wonderful, but needs serious updating. Poorly maintained, and reception staff seem to be left to pick up the flack when things go wrong. When we were there, there was a flood in our bathroom (the cold water was off, and when my husband turned the tap full on it came... more

Once again may I offer my sincerest apologies for the tap that broke in your husbands hand, and for the fact that the telephone was faulty. The telephone is not something that we check on a daily basis, but this has now been added to the housekeepers daily room check list. Thanks. Andrew

Just come back from a lovely stay at the Royal hotel, we book last minute so were only able to have a standard double room which was very nice but would pay the extra to upgrade as we overlooked the car park and the bathroom needed updating - otherwise lovely, very clean, everything you would need for an enjoyable stay... more

My husband and I, together with my mother and her partner stayed at the Royal for two nights. Our rooms were impressive. More spacious than many we had stayed in, clean, well equipped, with beautiful riverside views. The staff were very polite and hard working. Food was of a good standard, but couldn't be described as outstanding. One thing has... more

Very imposing position. Good car park. Easy to find. The staff were excepionally friendly, welcoming and worked very hard to make our stay enjoyable. We had lovely large rooms in the annex overlooking the river Wye.The food, whether we ate in the bar or the resaurant was excellent, served so nicely and exceptional value for the standard of the hotel.Everything... more

Booked via Old English Inns website, not realising until arrival that the Hotel was only 2 star rated; it became apparent why this lowly grading had been awarded. Our room was large and airy with double aspect views across the Wye Valley but details were missing - no trouser press or in-room ironing board, no shower cap, no body lotion... more
