Stayed at The Nurse’s Cottage for a family get together. First impressions were what a lovely place and rooms were spotless and comfortable. Real tea is served in the afternoon although there is no proper lounge area so this is served in the restaurant. We were a little disappointed with the evening meal. The food was well cooked; some dishes... more

We recently stayed at The Nurse’s Cottage run by Tony Barnfield, who is a very hospitable, professional and friendly host.  We were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The room was exceptionally comfortable, immaculate and warm, with many complimentary extras.  We had fresh scones and tea/coffee when we arrived and the evening meal was first... more

If you want the kind of hotel where you're anonymous then keep well away from Tony Barnfield's immaculately run Nurse's Cottage. He needs to know you are comfortable, well fed and when you pay the reasonably priced bill, he wants you feeling you've had value for money - and, most importantly, enjoyed his very individual and lively wit and the... more

Have just spent a lovely weekend at the Nurse's Cottage in the New Forest. The food was excellent the service was personal and discreet and the wine list was superb. The Nurses Cottage gives you that personal service that you used to take for granted years ago and now would just like to find once in a while. Propriertor, Tony... more

We booked for a two night bed, breakfast and evening meal stay based on the strength of the glowing reviews we had read. While the room we stayed in was perfectly comfortable, the dreadful experience we had with the proprietor and the poor quality of the evening meals has prompted us to write our first ever review on Trip Advisor... more

The accomodation was fabulous but I found the owner's over familiar comments verging on rude and was apalled by the way he treated his young staff. During breakfast on our last morning you could over hear him, in the kitcen, shouting at one young lad. Everything was always everyone else's fault. When paying our final bill, the owner blamed this... more

You can't fault the accomadation at this B&B but we were not at all happy with so called 4 star food, especially as we were travelling with a disabled relative and had no choice but to eat there!. All of the food was very bland and allot of it was not cooked properly. The owner was, whilst very attentive, a... more

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Nurses Cottage. We were very impressed by the fact that the establishment seems to employ mainly young, sometimes disabled/disadvantaged staff who seem geniunely grateful for the opportunity to work at the Nurses Cottage and do an excellent job. Our room was spotlessly clean and had lots of little extra... more

Management response from
The Nurse's Cottage Restaurant with Rooms, Chef/Proprietor

I am delighted that these reviewers enjoyed most aspects of their stay with us. Throughout the year, we normally offer a special starter, main course and dessert every evening. This couple stayed in July 2008 when, as part of the Hampshire Food Festival, we had two dinner menus in operation, affording 7 starter choices, 8 main dishes and 7 desserts...

I thoroughly endorse the comments of all the previous reviewers - this place is an absolute delight and Tony is a great host. Great touches - fresh milk and handmade chocolates in the room, fluffy hot water bottles for those chilly nights. Also the cleanest place I've ever stayed (sorry, mum) - room, en suite, restaurant, all spotless. Very comfortable... more
