Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just got back from working a few days in the lockerbie area, I booked the hotel through my company's travel group and set off on Sunday night. I was met by a staff member Erin when I arrived to be told that she had tried getting in touch with me through the 3rd party without success. The issue was that since I'd made the booking the hotel was getting the boiler/heating maintained and the hotel was to be closed for a day/night. I was told that they had a sister hotel sure hotel for the remainder of my trip and if it was only a few miles away, When I said that was absolutely Erin then offered to move my luggage to the sister hotel the following day. Anyway enough of my waffling, room was more than adequate, food in this hotel as well as the sister hotel was really nice. Great selection of single malt whiskeys too in their sister hotel . All the staff I met were really cheery and helpful and nothing was a trouble. I will definitely be looking to book one or the other hotel when I'm next working in that area. I know anyones plans can change and things go wrong in todays climate but i strongly belief its how a business deals with these hurdles is more important. Erin and the team passed with flying colours. Keep up the good work.

OYO Dryfesdale - Oh Why Oh why did we select this dreary, unloved and inhospitable hotel for the base for my daughter’s wedding. Luckily the wedding service was superb, but the happiness of the day was neatly offset by the belligerent, impatient and disinterested owner of the hotel, tired room and generally inedible food served at the wedding reception– questionable interpretation of edible steak/cheesecake/terrine of chicken, cases in point and not exhaustive. Strangely, the food served the previous evening was nice. Thinking there is a staffing issue here, namely a cook. Probably OK for an overnight stay for a touring guests, providing their bar is set low. I understand, from previous negative reviews, that the owner responds with counter complaints about his guests. So I expected the same when we forwarded our views to Best Western, to which this dire establishment is affiliated. Yep, he didn’t disappoint – apparently he showed great restraint in coping with some ‘unfortunate events as a result of our party’s behaviour’. Mmmmm – what would that be exactly: My daughter choking on a piece of food where the owner’s reaction was ‘did she choke on the confetti?’. Perhaps when we asked for our dinner tables to be put together for the pre wedding meal and they ended up at either end of the restaurant. The list goes on. And – has anyone ever heard of a hotel that does not have a facility of a reception room that guests can relax after a long journey (7 hours in our case). Instead, being sent away to the nearest town for an hour? I travel a lot – I have never experienced such a cavalier attitude. The other wedding party at the hotel echoed our experiences with this hotel and more specifically with the owner’s attitude. I would imagine the owner of this establishment will respond to this review with his own spurious allegations. That’s if he has time as he seems more interested in running his other hotels – hopefully with a little more care than he does the Dryfesdale. He can be assured that we will ignore any of his comments and I would advise anyone reading reviews does so also.

Stayed here for 2 nights for a wedding. Had lovely garden room with great views of the surrounding countryside. Whole weekend was fantastic, staff (including Glen) very nice and food delicious. Couldn’t fault breakfast ….. cereal, yoghurt, fresh fruit, pastries and cooked breakfast too. Would definitely stay again.

Unfortunately stayed here for my wedding, after booking I read the negative reviews but chose to ignore them, wish I hadn't, the only good thing about my day was the wedding venue, everything at the hotel was abysmal. The food, the service (except Aidan) the "bridal suite" that was the same as everyone else's room! I spoke with Glen (manager) not long after the booking and came off the phone knowing we had made a mistake, has to be the most abrasive hotelier ive had the misfortune of coming into contact with, he is definitely not happy to help and the customer better just put up and shut up. The hotel is a cash cow and they do not care about you or your day. Thankfully my family made it special because they certainly didn't. The wedding breakfast was low rate, I didn't eat any of it. Steak chewy, not asked how you like it cooked, I really could go on but I'm going to run out of characters. Neither the company I booked the wedding through, the hotel or the hotel chain are taking any responsibility, just taking Glen's word for it, and to make it worse he lies too! He should not be allowed to run a hotel, he does it badly. Please don't bother replying Glen as you will only lie!

Stayed for two nights as a wedding party. There was no warm welcome, in fact the opposite. The accommodation was adequate but looking tired. The meals were of extremely poor quality. The manager was downright rude. The staff require training in hospitality. (except Aiden). There was no member of staff to offer a friendly farewell. In fact there was no one on reception throughout the whole stay. Our whole party thought that the staff, (apart from Aiden) showed total disinterest. The whole experience was cold and extremely underwhelming. The manager thinks he is made of Teflon.

Went for a wedding. Staff all very young and we’re receiving on the job instructions. Bar ran out of gin and two taps for beer ran out. Bar prices quite expensive and when charged for a malt whiskey instead of grouse we were informed didn’t have a button for ordinary type whiskey. Drink prices varied every time. Meals were good. Breakfast served from 7-9 which is really early. Felt like staff wanted you out as soon as possible.

Lovely location, slight drone from adjacent motorway, but not too bad. Elegantly set out dining rooms, and lovely country house feel, on entering but all downhill from there. First night no food "issue with the chef", last night no food "issue with the gas" - don't believe either but they do have an issue with their ability to run a hotel. Room door left open by housekeeping on second day, room not serviced on last but one night. Standard of cleaning could be better, toilet seat did not fit correctly, all poorly installed, like a bad DIY job. A place which has seen its better days unfortunately.

A lovely family-run hotel where it felt like all the staff worked as a team to make our stay enjoyable. A very pleasant country setting and our room was spacious and comfortable too. There is plenty of parking space and the breakfasts were generous and tasty.
