I travelled with a group and the hotel was obviously not able to cope with large numbers (20) the menu offered to us seemed okay but the food was awful. The service was extremely slow it took one hour for the first course to appear! The staff were not helpful and needed someone in control. I would avoid this hotel... more

Orkney is wonderful, Kirkwall is great and the Orkney Hotel is perfectly situated. The staff are friendly and helpful but really over worked - especially at breakfast when they were so clearly stressed out and unable to cope with all the customers complaining because everything (orange juice, muesli, mushrooms, marmalade) had all run out. The following day when nothing had... more

My husband and I recently stayed in Orkney for 2 days on the way up to the Shetlands. We were originally meant to stay in a hotel on the harbor - I chose it because I thought being on the water would be nice. This turned out to be a mistake. The hotel was fine, a bit outdated, but was... more

We booked to stay at the Orkney Hotel after reading the reviews online for our last minute trip to island. We were pleased to find that the hotel was centrally located enabling my girlfriend to wonder around town while I worked. The check-in was straight forward and the staff were both friendly and helpful. Our room had recently been redecorated... more

I was in Orkney to work within the Health Service for a few days . The hotel was booked centrally for me . I arrived with my wife and we checked in . Immediately on seeing the " double " room I was dismayed . Tiny Dark Dingy and with a cubicle shower smaller than many fish tanks; peeling mouldy... more

This hotel was nice, but after paying 35 pounds per night for a fabulous place in Inverness; it seemed a bit much to pay 60 pounds for their Single accommodation. My room was a bit small & cramped, the WIFI was so weak that it wouldn't work, the bathroom carpet was ripped & looked tacky, they didn't provide very much... more

We recently stayed here for one night. The hotel is basic and the decor dates from the 80's but the people are very friendly, the rooms were clean and the bar was great! Its quite difficult to find so if your driving there yourself make sure you have a good map as its hidden away down a one way system... more

My wife and I came to Orkney for the first time to attend a wedding. The wedding took place at the St. Magnus Cathedral and being right down the road, The Orkney Hotel was conveniently located. I did check it out online and the hotel had some promising reviews, but when a fellow passenger (I think they were Scottish?) recommended... more

I visited Orkney for a week and decided to base myself in Kirkwall, mainly because the ferry from Aberdeen only arrives at 11pm. Due to the pedestrianisation of the main street and various roadworks, it was quite tricky to find parking. When I eventually reached the Orkney Hotel, the reception desk was closed and the night manager was not answering... more

We stayed at the Orkney Hotel a few days over new year's while finalising the move to our new home on the island. Advertisement for the hotel states, "enjoy our Orcadian hospitality" and this could not be more true. As we stayed over new year's eve, we expected to simply take care of ourselves, however the staff was very attentive... more
