This lovely house "in the middle of nowhere" is a nice place to stay if you want to enjoy England's pretty countryside or visit nearby places like Bath or Avesbury. Owners Ginny and Bill are a very friendly couple who are always helpful and have a large supply of maps and leaflets. Our rooms were nice and spacious. We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast with homemade organic bread and jam (in addition to the traditional bacon, eggs etc.) at the large dining room table. Ginny and Bill are owners of three dogs which are very friendly, but if you don't like dogs this might not be the right place for you (we loved them!). Parrot Biggles makes interesting noises (e.g. fax machine...) but is to be enjoyed best from a distance!
All in all a place we would definitely recommend!

My partner was going to a track day at Keevil airfield so we stayed here overnight. The drive's not suited to low cars- it's steep and rutted, though the owner did say she was thinking of having it smoothed.

Chittoe is out in the middle of nowhere- you need to drive to get to a pub or restaurant. We went down into Lacock, which is quite ornamentally ancient, to eat at the pub she recommended there. It was rather pricey though!

You have to like animals. There are two puppies and an older dog, plus a parrot. You also have to be comfortable with the inevitable class difference between yourself and the owner. She was extremely friendly- made us a cuppa and sat out in the garden to chat. But my boyfriend found her awfully posh and much of the decor is centred on the hunt. That said though, she was very keen to make ours a pleasant stay.

The photos of the house on their website don't do it justice- the garden's small but pretty and overlooks a thatched cottage...
