I recently had a birthday weekend at The Ilsington Country House Hotel, along with nine other female friends. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and even provided the library room for our exclusive use for dinner on the Saturday evening. The food and service was excellent. This is a very peaceful, relaxing hotel with comfortable rooms and lounge areas,... more

Spent a truly wonderful weekend at Ilsington in November 2007. From the moment I arrived, I experienced warm, friendly and hospitable staff throughout the hotel. The food is thoroughly delicious also. Will definitely return to Ilsington again soon! more

I recently held a surprise birthday party for my husband at The Ilsington and had the most fantastic evening From the start of planning the party to the event itself I found the staff helpful, caring and professional. The food is superb and all the facilities that we used were spotless The hotel is set in beautiful surrondings and is... more

Have just returned from a lovely weekend stay. The location as others have said is fantastic with the best parts of the Moor easily accessible albeit by careful navigation of some very narrow country lanes. Meals were every bit as good as anyone could hope for. Plenty of choice for breakfast and a high quality and imaginative dinner menu using... more

Great location/view - hotel building good/interesting but thought very overpriced for what it was. Couple of real problems: Carpet was literally black with greasy looking dirt in our bedroom, all over the room - never seen anything like it even at cheaper hotels or b&b's - no alternative rooms free so had to put up with it. If something that... more

This review is 2 years out of date and most of the hotel has been refurbished since then. We don't and never have had a 'no jeans' policy. Having built this hotel up over the last ten years to what it is today our achievements have surpassed our expectations - so regretably for this comentator we are not going anywhere!

Beware!

A comfortable hotel with excellent food and a leisure centre let down by money grabbing tactics. Cosy, open fires, good views and reasonable pool, sauna etc. Handy for breaking the journey to Cornwall as well as for Devon stays. Food deserves its two rosettes. But.... having decided to eat in the lounge because one of my colleagues only wanted one... more

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 nights here. The hotel staff are a real asset, courteous, friendly & professional. It is owner-managed & has the feel of someone caring about it. The pool / gym area is first-rate, as are the meals. Great location - peaceful yet accessible. If I have any criticism it would be for the dog owners staying... more

Stayed at this lovely country house hotel for a weekend with my husband and 2 year old son. Staff were wonderful and made us very welcome, we were on DBB which was excellent and the food was wonderful, with a good choice using local produce. We have stayed in a lot of luxury hotels as well as eating at excellent... more
