The Old Coaching House is without doubt the poorest hotel I have stayed in. Our party booked two rooms, both of which suffered from the same problems: a lack of heat and light. The electric heaters in both rooms could not be switched on manually – they were on a timer. On complaining to a staff member (at 7.30pm) we were curtly told that the heaters would not be switched on because "most people are not in their rooms at this time". Unfortunately they did not come on at any point during our one-night stay. Both rooms' bathrooms also had exceptionally dim lights, adding to the suspicion that the owners are penny-pinching.
Breakfast was a shambles: the dining room was predictably cold and, unnecessarily, too small - most of it had been closed off, presumably to avoid lighting and heating. No tables were available on our arrival, and on raising this with a passing member of staff we were told to wait five minutes for one to come free. Service was poor, unsurprising...
