Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

From the moment we arrived we had a warm friendly welcome from the receptionist (sorry didn't get your name), who was very efficient in booking us in. We were treating my parents for one night, and a few weeks previous I had called to ask if they could have a room with a nice view, and they weren't disappointed. The room was lovely, looking out over the front lawn with the forest. We can't fault our rooms, very clean and lovely comfy beds. The hotel is very clean with lovely decor throughout. All staff were so friendly and efficient, and couldn't do enough for you. We didn't have evening meal, only breakfast, but there was a lovely hot and cold breakfast selection. The only small fault is the buffet breakfast, could be a lot hotter, apart from that all good. We had an amazing time, from the minute we got there, until the time we left, we will definitely be returning.

Stayed here for one night as was bought as a Christmas present. We arrived early for the Sunday lunch as the reviews said the food was good. When we went to sit down they were very disorganised & could not find our reservation, we eventually got sat in the bar area as we had our dog with us but had pretty bad service from there with the 2 people serving acting cold towards us, as if we were putting them out. The food when it arrived was fantastic & I can see why the reviews are so good. Think there was a shift change & a manager served us at the end who was lovely. The room was nice & the hotel in a lovely location. All other staff we encountered were very friendly. Overall nice hotel with great food just some hit & miss service.

I arrived at 0930 as my treatment was booked at 1030 (I have an email confirmation which proves this). Unfortunately it had been rescheduled to 1500 with no reason or warning, but I imagine to make space for group bookings. Luckily my room was ready though as it had been unoccupied the night before. The room was okay, apparently an upgrade (?), but it had no fridge, no air con or working radiator so no way of drying anything, just 2 plug in heaters that you can’t put anything on, the bathroom wasn’t cleaned properly, there was no milk (found this out around 6am unfortunately), TV remote or hotel info leaflet/pack so I had to make my own enquiries about breakfast. The furniture was all basic Ikea, there was peeling wallpaper, marks on the table & carpet… I went to use the leisure facilities (small pool, jacuzzi & sauna) and found 2 unaccompanied children in there, bombing, splashing & shouting. One repeatedly sniggered at my pregnant belly which made me so uncomfortable I went and sat on my bed until lunch. There were no staff in the spa area to raise this with, there was a queue at reception and I was so humiliated I didn’t want to traipse round the hotel in a dressing gown to make a bigger deal out of it. I also later overheard a member of staff telling a guest that the door to the facilities should have been left open without the need for a key, so really anyone could have walked in off the street and into the changing rooms too. Lunch that came with the spa day was tasty & filling. I had the chicken option, the meat was tender, the spring rolls were crispy & the fruit salad was fresh. Unfortunately the ‘tomato & peanut salad’ came with half a warm cherry tomato and 3 or 4 smashed peanuts. The treatment itself was amazing & the therapist was wonderful, polite & professional. It was a body scrub with massage & facial. My skin felt wonderful after. Dinner was excellent, I was sat immediately and the food came promptly, good portion size too. I would definitely eat at the restaurant again - note, the restaurant is just off reception, not a separate room. Breakfast was also lovely, a good variety of hot & cold food as well as juice. If you want a ‘proper’ coffee it is extra cost. Check out was quick & easy, the reception staff are friendly. Overall I had a nice stay but considering it’s a 4 star hotel unfortunately it didn’t really meet expectations. .

Just stayed a night this time, second visit of the year. Once again the staff we spoke to were excellent, nothing is too much trouble. Our breakfast was delicious. At the moment there’s a redecoration going on in the bar area which we’re excited to see how it looks on our next visit which hopefully will be sooner rather than later. Top notch again 😊

We stayed for a birthday celebration mid March 2024, really nice time, really lovely staff and I also met the owner while watching England beat Ireland in the 6 nations so that was a great little bonus! We had a fantastic dinner there and a great breakfast the next day. Bed was creaky! but it was an antique 4 poster bed so kind of to be expected. Comfy mattress, warm room, very quiet with a great view of the lawn. Didn't check out the spa. All in all a very lovely stay :)

Thank you so much to Jack and team at Balmer Lawn Hotel. you all made myself and my pup so welcome and comfortable during our two night stay. We both felt very well looked after. Your staff are truly kind and caring individuals. Food and drink was excellent, and location stunning, and perfect for dog walks, relaxing with a beer al-fresco in the sunshine, whilst staying warm with fluffy blankets and heaters.....and music. Would 100% recommend for breaks away. Spa treatments also very good. Thank you! :-)

I booked a valentines weekend. A room, meal and spa treatments. It was a complete disaster and I left and moved into a nearby hotel which was excellent. This place is old, dirty and needs some updating. The management could not accept responsibility, were very poor and had no idea what customer service means. Very poor and never again.

From the time we arrived for our 3 night mini break the staff at Balmer Lawn were lovely very friendly & couldn’t do enough for you. Was put in room 4 only a roof top view but very quiet. Breakfast was buffet on the first morning which was plentiful.. second morning was to order, was really quiet not many people about. The pool was a bit of a let down very tired, & beds were squashed on the side with not much room.. needs updating to make more room to relax.. We pulled our bed sheets up in the morning but on our return no attempt had been made by room service to the bad being made properly & no milk left as a top up either, although fresh towels had been left. All in all with minor issues we had a lovely stay & maybe will return again.

We stayed here for 2 nights with my parents and dog, the staff were fabulous and went out of their way to help my slightly frail parents; food was exceptional; rooms were excellent (the dog was very pleased with its own bed!); and location was perfect - out the gate and straight into New Forest. I will definitely be coming back!
