I have stayed in old and quaint, but this was old and tired, poorly maintained and definitely over priced for the low standard. Seeing the state of the place, eating out in the evening seemed the best thing to do. I'm glad I didn't take family with me; they would have been so disappointed. more

We took my mum and dad for their 50th aniversary, The rooms were shabby, with wallpaper peeling, grubby carpets, mould in the bathrroms with some items missing. Out of date milk for the tea making facilities. I had to change my original room because of the smell. Pool was dirty and some carpets in the public areas would be better... more

We arrived soon after another couple and the Receptionist was stressed because ‘everyone was arriving together’! The bed was comfortable and clean. The furniture was really tacky. The bathroom was awful. The lino was sagging around the bath and the tiles were mouldy and the shower didn’t work. The knobs fell off the radiators. The food was OK, but the... more

We were part of a large wedding party and were disappointed on several levels. Our room was small and hot, and neither the radio, shower nor toilet worked properly. When staff "cleaned" the room they failed to change wet towels or replenish toiletries. Other members of our party experienced problems ranging from TVs and radios that didn't work, to a... more

If you are thinking of visiting this hotel my advice is do not...the spirit of Fawlty Towers is alive and well here. The decor has not been updated since at least 1980, the building is smelly and dirty, various things do not work - including showers, kettles etc. The food is disgusting and/ or cold, service is badly organised and... more

Although the public rooms are perfectly OK, the bedrooms are desperately in need of updating (from the 1950s perhaps). Our "shower" was a dirty piece of plastic that dribbled warm water. The tiles cracked and dirty, the towel rail literally fell off the wall and the furniture would look bad in a cheap second-hand shop. The food was reasonable but... more

Visiting the Watersplash Hotel with my extended family has been lovely. Although many of the features are aging, and there is a hint of disrepair creaping in, it does not detract significantly from the otherwise pleasent experience. If you are overly concerned with certain details - the TVs are old, there are spots of discolouration on hard to reach walls,... more

Hotel stuck in the '70s. Basic room. Needed to ask for towels. TV and radio did not work. Food poor quality - small portions, lukewarm, full menu selection not available. more

7 Dec 2008 | Trip type: Friends getaway

Eight friends stayed here and although the hotel is a little tired this was more than compensated for by the warm welcome we received from owner Robin and his staff. The food was excellent and one vegetarian friend was asked to meet with the chef to discuss her requirements. We would definitely stay here again. more

18 May 2008 | Trip type: Couples

For £120 per night, this is a very out dated hotel and it was like staying in an old b&b. The room stunk of perfume to disguise the musty smell and there was the most ancient wall mounted radio that did not work. Very expensive for what it is. Deffinately would not be staying there again- not good value for... more
