Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a gem, had a wonderful time with friends staying overnight at Appleby Manor - from the warm receptionist Pauline, who accommodated our requests to change spa times, to knowing the names of the fells surrounding the hotel and generally just being so helpful. All the staff that we came across were friendly and helpful - so refreshing, it actually felt as if they enjoyed their work. This was an amazing deal which I'd highly recommend.

We have just got home from a 2nt stay at Appleby Manor and we had an exception time! If you’re looking for a quaint, traditional and zen little getaway look no further. The service from the staff was top rated. Having worked for a prestigious hotel and golf resort in the past, I look out for great service and the team at Appleby were better than great. Friendly and attentive, so professional and meticulous. Exactly what you’d expect from a 4* hotel. Our room was comfortable with beautiful views, the views surrounding the hotel were picturesque, there were sitting and lounge areas dotted around. It was peaceful and tranquil wherever you went. We had a spa experience day and it was one of the best spa experiences I’ve had. I was completely and utterly rested, and offering cocktails around the spa was the icing on the cake. The food in the restaurants and spa was exceptional too, local quality food cooked to perfection. There was an opportunity to indulge from morning to night. There really isn’t a bad word I can say, we would definitely revisit and recommend it to anyone wanting to checkout if day to day life for some peace and relaxation.

All staff were warm, friendly, efficient staff. Good well-presented rooms. Great Restaurant, food was excellent, Bistro food was also excellent. Good selection of wines and beer, cocktails etc. Location was a little hard to find on a dark and rainy night. No disabled car parking adjacent hotel, car parking is gravelled and needs the drainage improved along with the lighting.

We stayed here last Saturday night, our daughter bought us a package for our wedding anniversary. We had dinner bed and breakfast plus use of the spa. We arrived on Saturday afternoon and the lady on reception was very helpful and friendly. She showed us where to go for the spa and explained about dinner, breakfast and where our room was located. Our room was on the top floor. It was quite spacious and we had a bath as well as a shower. Our robes and flip flops were provided. The hotel is lovely, it is really quaint and has a lot of charm. We went down to the spa where another lovely lady showed us round. We used all the facilities in the aqua thermal spa, it was amazing. We then got showered and changed and went down for our three course meal with wine in the bistro. The meal was really good. We then went for a few drinks in the bar, it was very relaxing with a nice chilled atmosphere and lovely friendly staff. In the morning we had a lovely breakfast while sitting at the window looking out at the gorgeous views of the countryside. We had a lovely little walk round the grounds, then checked out and went into Appleby, which is a lovely little town with a river running through it. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. Thank you to all the lovely staff team.

We loved our stay here. All of the staff were super friendly and helpful, the spa was great and much better than we were expecting. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Our evening meal in the restaurant was delicious, and so nice to have such interesting and inventive veggie options! Would definitely come back :)

This is a superb manor house in a quiet location about 10-15 mins walk into Appleby. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we were made to feel very welcome. Our room was decorated and furnished in the correct period which added to the feel. Breakfast was superb, my wife and I had the full English. our plateds were warmed, which was a nice touch, the quality was perfect. I've stayed in all types of hotels all over the world and this is probably one of the best full English breakfasts I've had. I always rate a place on whether I'd go back, and in this case I certainly would. It would be a great place to explore the countryside of N.Yorks from without the noise of a town or city.

Lovely staff. The best part being the staff. They are happy to help with whatever. They just want you to have a great staff. We had a glorious restaurant meal, and also ate in the bistro and had afternoon tea ( and large breakfasts!) Lovely views down towards the castle as you eat. Enjoyed cocktails in the bar too. Nice seating rooms to sit and chat. Good power shower and good quality bath products. Felt like a very well run family hotel.

This review is more about a staff member than the actual hotel. A young man who looked after us both on arrival and the next morning at breakfast. His name is David and we all thought he was absolutely wonderful - a true professional. He was polite and helpful and went out of his way for us all. Good old fashioned hospitality that we don’t see all that often these days. Thank you David for making us feel so welcome 😊

A large group of us had Xmas dinner here today and it was very good. The food was excellent and the service friendly. My wife's gluten free choices were no problem. Very nice Christmas atmosphere. Clean and tidy toilets immaculate. Wheelchair friendly.
