This is a typical Travelodge insofar as it provides a basic, comfortable, base. Where it differs from some is in the character and history of the building, and the location - a 10 minute walk into the centre of Durham (albeit up a steep hill on the return, the 68 year old member of our party managed it with ease,... more

The hotel is the average, economy hotel. The rooms are spartan but clean. The staff seem fine but we didn't have much dealings with them. The hotel is well located not far from Durham city centre but to walk there you need to negotiate a very busy roundabout. I think a bridge or underpass is needed. Whatever you do, do... more

We stayed 3 nights here at the Travelodge sale rate so this represented superb value for money. The hotel was easy to find approaching from the A1 and check in was trouble free. Our room was in the newer annexe and did not disappoint; of course it was basic but it was clean and well cared for. Although not far... more

We got one night in the Travelodge sale and booked a second night at the normal rate. It was easy to find and conveniently located for a ten minute walk into Durham city. Use the footbridge to cross the very busy road and a downhill stroll down Gilesgate brings you into the market square. The Cathedral and Castle are another... more

We had no problems parking for free in the hotels carpark.... more

We've stayed at Durham Travelodge before but always been given rooms in the new, self-contained annexe at the rear of the main building - but on this occasion we checked in much earlier than usual and were given a room in the main building itself. Being a fan of interesting buildings and old buildings being converted for modern use rather... more

Durham is a beautiful city, sadly the hotel wasn't I was greeted by a rude and unhelpful lady who demanded to see ID. I don't carry my passport when traveling around the UK and I don't have a credit card, only a debit card, which wasn't enough. The lady became inpatient and made me feel uncomfortable. When I eventually got... more
