I needed a B&B within walking distance of Durham University and the Victoria Inn seemed to tick most of the buttons. It is a interesting, atmospheric pub, but it is not equipped for this year's weather. At midday the B&B does not open before the pub does at 11.45 am, so I had to stand outside in the cold for... We went back to this pub this week for the first time in years. Any worries that the pub had changed were soon put aside. This is an absolute gem not to be missed (and I spend a lot of time in old pubs drinking real beer!). Really friendly. The rooms had been done up since last time we stayed... More

The VIctoria Inn is well named - a Victorian pub that has not lost its way. The bar areas are a treasure trove of memorabilia and the atmosphere is wonderfully friendly and welcoming. The collection of ales and whiskeys for a pub of its size is amazing. The bar staff are only too pleased to assist with a guided tour... More

I have been in love with The Vic as a pub for more than 30 years, so I am unashamedly biased, but... First time I had actually stayed in the B&B for many years, and it has come a long way from its more basic days. I took one of the attic rooms as a single for 52 pounds a... More

I have frequented this place for over 30 years and there is no better place. The atmosphere is just brilliant and it gives the feeling that you are in your lounge at home - that's at home this special place makes you feel. Fab bar staff and nice quaint surroundings. Sundays are the best day with a variety of food... More

A friend recommended we go to the Victoria for a drink on our visit to Durham, and we were very glad that we followed his advice! The bar staff were lovely, making us feel as welcome as the regulars. The open fires gave the pub a lovely cosy feel - very welcome on a cold winter evening. Great selection of... More

this charming old victorian pub is very centrally located, and is what it is: a pub with rooms. we had an attic room with very comfy bed and extremely well appointed bathroom. the breakfast was adequate and standard. we came as cyclists, and although the bikes were safe in the tiny back yard there was no rain shelter for them.... We stayed here for a couple of nights on whilst on a short break in the area. The rooms are above the pub, in fact we were over the bar, but this is not a problem at all as there are no noise issues. The rooms are clean and have everything that's required. The bed was very comfortable and the... More
