Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I stayed with Kieth and Christine for a short stay at the end of June 2023. As I am from the US, this was my first ever experience in the UK, and I was extremely pleased throughout my visit. I had spent several months working in France, and was looking for a low key, relaxing beach stay. Upon my arrival, Kieth and Christine made sure to establish a personal connection with me, and provided me with many recommendations. A nice breakfast was provided every morning alongside some discussions about my days plans. At night, I relaxed in my clean, cozy room. If I do venture back to the Isle of Wight, I would most certainly consider staying with Kieth and Christine again!

Hotel's Favourite
Jewel in the crown of B&B’s in Shanklin. Offering a good choice of breakfast, with waiting time in the mornings cut to a minimum by pre-ordering the night before. Genius! No errors, no overcooking and no waiting when you’re keen to get on with your day. If you’re looking for a stay in the Grosvenor House Hotel at bargain rates, you will be disappointed. However, if you’re looking for a scrupulously clean B&B to stay with thoughtful touches, a mini fridge and a fan in the room then this is the place to lodge your suitcase! Particularly appreciated was the daily thorough cleaning of the en-suite and a change of towels mid week. Covid guidelines are followed esp with regard to ventilation in the rooms. We loved the mini lounge upstairs and our party of five felt very at home there in the evenings, chatting over the day. Most places are a walkable distance from The Swiss Cottage, including a reasonably priced lift down to the beach, only two blocks away. For newcomers to Shanklin, it’s hilly up the main high street, sensible shoes a must! (says my 15 year old daughter!) The Owners (Chrissy and The Other One - Keith!!) are very friendly and approachable on all levels. We met their animals, but only at our request and very unobtrusive at all other times. Seeing the few negative reviews about The Rules, I found these comments to be most unfair. The so-called Rules are nothing of the sort. They are simply how most people live in their own houses. Maybe experience has shown that some others need to be reminded what is considerate practice when staying in other people’s homes, whether you’re paying guests or not. If we venture back to Shanklin, here’s where we’d stay. Thanks for everything J,A & L

I have written reviews on Swiss Cottage in the past and this visit certainly didnt disappoint, in fact I think it continues to exceed all expectations. The cleanliness, food and service is second to none I feel that I don't do justice to lunch in a venue in Shanklin (or indeed anywhere else on the Island) because after eating one of the Breakfast's at Swiss Cottage you won't be hungry. Everything single thing that you would need for a super holiday is provided for you, parking is essential to many of us and this is excellent I can't wait for my next visit

Very clean, well equipped room and bathroom, quiet street allowing for a restful sleep, good location, walking distance from train station, buses shops, cafes, the village and the beach can be reached by the lift during its working hours or a steepish walk, as well as the The Chimes. Am affordable stay in this pretty area.

This was our second stay with Keith and Christine at Swiss Cottage. We returned as we knew there would be a friendly welcome back, fantastic breakfast and a relaxing break. The ferry was booked by Keith in advance which was great. A home from home bed and breakfast, happy to guide you with the best restaurants and areas of interest. Highly recommended.

We were so impressed with our stay here. Everything was scrupulously clean and tidy. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners, Keith and Christine, who were happy to share information to enhance our visit to the island. Every day started with a delicious breakfast, perfectly cooked, selected from the menu the day before. The en-suite room was well appointed and everything worked perfectly. All together a lovely eperience. Thank you, Keith and Christine. Hope to see you both again soon. Very best wishes, Chris and Cindy.

We spent 4 nights at The Swiss Cottage and what a find! A real home from home ( without all the work!) Christine and Keith ( aka Roger) were superb hosts, chatting after the best breakfast we ever had, asking about our plans, making suggestions etc The rooms were spotless, cleaned every day, very comfortable, plenty of tea, coffee and milk. The attention to detail could not be faulted. We would definitely return and can’t recommend it highly enough. Margaret and Judy ,

Quiet location - convenient to beaches, ameneties and The Chine. Keith and Christine are originally from London - friendly people with a sense of humour. The bedrooms are well maintained and the bathrooms clean with ample hot water. On premises parking is limited but everbody during my stay was accommodated - no pun intended.

We spent a week at the Swiss Cottage and toured the island. The Shanklin area was a lot nicer than some other locations so we felt we had chosen well.As this was at the end of the holiday season the beaches were almost empty, but for an elderly couple, that was a plus! We booked tickets for the theatre in Shanklin and saw an excellent musical performance. The venue was packed, so clearly the theatre has a good reputation. We visited Queen Victoria's holiday residence, Osborne House, several castles, the Needles, glass making studios and Cowes- which was virtually closed! We were made very welcome at the Swiss Cottage. A good breakfast to start the day, a warm and comfortable room, friendly and helpful owners who arranged our ferry times to and from the island for us. Within easy reach of good restaurants and the best beaches, I would happily stay there again.
