We've stayed at the Grand Island every year between 2004 and 2008. I do an annual visit to remember my brother who was killed on the Mountain Road. We decided this year not to stay at the Grand Island as even its Fawlty Towers charm had run out and we stayed elsewhere and learnt of its closure. Why build another... more

We have stayed there during our visits to the TT and MGP after The Prince of Wales closed. Whilst it was old we have never had any cause to complain. We look forward to see if the new place lives up to the standards of service. more

The Grand Island closed its doors for the last time on the 9th February 2009, and on the 14th February, its entire contents were auctioned off. Soon the windows will be boarded up, and then, once the new hotel on the Mooragh Promenade is built, the bulldozers will move in. It is very sad to see the old lady of... more

I had already been warned that this hotel is the "Fawlty Towers" of the Isle of Man, so I was curious. It does look shabby from the outside, but the room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was clean too. The breakfast was excellent and could have set me up for the day. I am so sad it is closing... more

We chose this hotel in a hurry from a list provided by the Steam Packet Ferry, when problems with a Ferry gave us two unwanted extra nights on the Isle of Man. On arrival our hearts sank - scruffy car park and peeling window frames. However it was reassuringly clean and safety conscious inside. The potted history in the brochure... more

My family and I just returned from a holiday on the IOM and we truely enjoyed our stay at the Grand Island Hotel. We were a little leery after reading some of the reviews here but we found the hotel to be clean, the staff overly friendly and the view was beyond compare. The lobby and exterior were a little... more

The Grand Island Hotel Ramsey is apparently going to be closed soon. Quite right too. This is one of the grottiest hotels I have ever been to. The room was small and every item of furniture was chipped or stained. The bathroom was as if in an institution. The whole place smelled of damp. But what did it was that... more

Four of us recently visited the Grand as a 3 night getaway. We certainly didn't regret it either. When we arrived we thought we'd made a mistake - the hotel looks very tired indeed - but we needed have worried. It is tired definitely, but it is clean (and warm!!) and the location is superb. The food was fine too.... more

What a fantastic find this hotel is - It's not perfect but the combination of dramatic location, great weather, friendly staff and comfy bedrooms made a family holiday to remember. We would certainly return. The decor is faded and in need of an update but if I had a choice between out of date with character or bland featureless decor,... more

WOW! Great location, amazing views, clean accomodation, friendly helpful staff. Best place I've stayed in with children and very good Breakfast selection! Lovely local walks as well on promenade and along coastline. Not bad for a 2 star hotel! It was also good value. It is a Victorian period hotel which has had alot of work done to her -... more
