Warm friendly welcome. Shown to a first floor ensuite room (corner bath) with a double and single bed, described as a small family room (I'd asked for an ensuite single and was offered this at the single rate).
Breakfast was served in a small dining room, freshly cooked to order and was excellent.
Staff seemed eager to please and when asked for directions were both helpful and more importantly accurate.
Newcastle is about 20 minutes drive, beach and town centre a few minutes stroll from the guest house.

Downsides
Due to limited on site car parking I had to park on the adjacent road (advised this is covered by police CCTV). No ensuite smoking rooms - only 1 smoking room on premises.

Overall I'll happily recommend the Caledonian and have already booked three nights there at the end of June when I have to be back in Newcastle. more
