Very clean and spacious rooms, wonderful location, though a leisurely 10 to 15-minute walk from the old town. This guest house was one of the very few I've been in that had a computer with Internet set aside for the guests. The owner was absolutely wonderful - she had to go to town, so she even gave me a ride... more
We arrived at Castlecroft tired and a bit dazed after a five hour train trip from Manchester. As first time international travelers we were a little bewildered by our experience and I am sure it showed. We were greeted by the smiling face of Frances, the proprietor, and her faithful Scottish deerhound. Frances got us settled in, recommended a great... more
What can I say, the Castlecroft is an absolutely wonderful establishment! My wife and I found the Castlecroft to be a home...not just a B&B. This in part is due to the wonderful proprietress, Francis. Upon our arrival in April my wife was still suffering from a rather nasty cold with a wicked cough. Francis was kind enough to bring... more
We've been at Castlecroft just one night on 7th of May 2009. It's been, by far, the best B&B we've ever been, for many reasons. First of all, Mrs Frances is absolutely adorable. As we arrived late (at about 9 pm), she prepared a hot home-cooked dinner (home-baked bread, salad, hot chicken with mushrooms, homemade ice cream and a great... more
We picked Castlecroft from the many great reviews we read here and believe you they weren't wrong! Frances was the sweetest, nicest lady in the world! She was very charming and soft spoken and a chatty cathy! Which was great because we wanted to learn all we could about anything scottish and especially gaelic! She was wealth of information and... more
This was our first trip to Scotland to see a friend who is attending the University of Stirling. Having not stayed at too many B & Bs we weren't sure what to expect. We were certainly pleasantly surprised. The Castlecroft is impeccably maintained, it sits at the base of the Stirling Castle and Frances goes way above and beyond at... more
Frances takes her mission seriously in all respects. Out of seven nights we spent in Scotland ( each in a different location ) this was by far the best. Freshly baked scones start the breakfast. Lovely sitting in the garden or in the wonderful lounge when it rains, looking over the distant mountains where the sun goes to sleep. Really... more
Having read the raves on this site, I was excited to stay here--but found it rather a disappointment. The location is excellent, and the views are beautiful, but our room was not great--it was clean, but the beds were ancient and very saggy, and the decor really could be refreshed throughout. We had stayed at two excellent B and Bs... more
I could write pages on how much I enjoy Castlecroft and I still would not do it justice. The location is perfect and the owner is beyond lovely. She spoils you as would a favorite aunt. We have stayed in many B&B’s all over Scotland and have not found Castlecroft’s equal. We enjoy Francis’s hospitality so much that would rather... more
