I have stayed at the Staincliffe for over a year now on my own and with colleagues, average stay 2 weeks per month. since the new owner Brian took over in September 09 the changes in the hotel are remarkable. In this short period of time he has revamped, bedrooms, both restaurants, front of house, reception area, car park and still... more

All rooms are tastelessly themed. Undergoing refurb but i stayed in a refurbed room. My room was deemed the best room by my 9 colleagues and still it was very bad. The charge was the same for the rooms we stayed in and all rooms varied enormously in size and decor. My room had been opened too early and the... more

I stayed at the Staincliffe last week when I was in the area on buiness and found it a very pleasant experience. Refurbishment is well under way and if you look past the odd bit of chipped paintwork or speck of dust, it was a hotel with real character and not an impersonal experience as with a lot of large... more

My collegues and I have been using The Staincliffe for over a year as a base when working in the region ( we travel down from Scotland ). Whilst I agree that the hotel was indeed in need of some TLC, the personal attacks on the staff by some reviewers I find to be distorted and unfair. I would not... more

First impressions on arrival were not good - peeling paint and a general air of decay - and it didn't improve once inside. Reception areas, hallways, landings are all very scruffy and rundown. Comparing notes with colleagues staying at the same time, rooms vary enormously in style/size/comfort, but all a bit tatty. I was intially allocated a room which looked... more

As the hotel had been booked on our behalf we were a little worried after reading some of the reviews, expecting a cold, pokey room with an uncormfortable bed. Nothing could have been further from the truth. The 'Breakers' room looked out over the sea, was large light and airey and very warm. In fact a bit too warm. The... more

Stayed for two nights on business this week, the room was cold, i was served food in the bar by someone who ate food whilst serving drinks without washing their hands. There was a blood stain on the bathroom wall, Very poor TV reception a bin not emptied after the last occupant, no soap/shampoo. Even when checking out the receptionist... more

The hotel definately needs to refurbish the bedrooms. The heating system in the room did not work so it was freezing, the management put a little hot air blower in the bedroom which wasn't much good, then the plug sockets blew when hair dryer was plugged in. I was then given another smaller room the next morning which was a... more

My family and I stayed overnight after attending a family wedding reception. The hotel looked grubby and unloved from outside and didnt get much better inside. Paint flaking from window frames, tired, torn seats in the bar area, stained ceilings. Quick check in. We stayed in the "Wedgewood Suite", according the website recently refurbished to a high standard. How long... more
